Chrome Delete

Has anybody done Chrome Delete themselves on a 2021 Lexus IS? Just curious if any of the trim is easily removable?

Had mine done but they didn't remove the trim. They tucked the edges around it so you can't see any chrome.

I can’t speak for how the wrap can be done as I haven’t done it. But, as far as them being removable, the two bottom pieces of the window closest to the door handle are the easiest to remove with only one clip on each extremity of the door and the rest just slots into the door channel. However, the clips are very very easy to break. Id borderline argue that it’s designed to just go in once. The top portion is even harder because it is riveted in. If you pull back on the door grommet you can see the rivets. Sasnuke will correct me but I think it’s 7 rivets in the front and 6 in the rear. I was considering swapping the trim with the IS500 trim, but as soon as I heard rivets I decided id just get it wrapped eventually

A friend has done his. He did a gloss-black wrap over it. It's the Caviar car in this photo. I wish I had one from a different angle so you could see it closer, but alas.

Not sure which product he went with, will have to circle back. I wouldn't recommend removing the existing trim but rather just wrapping it like he did.

By any chance, do you who the owner of the vehicle on the right is?

I ended up doing it myself leaving the trim on and couldn't be more happier with the results:

It definitely makes the car look more aggressive and sporty. It is a must on these cars, as there isn't any other chrome except for the spears on the mirrors.

^^ I agree, the results are amazing and really transforms the look of the car - I am usually not a mod person but what a difference!

Markaveli - great job and your IS looks incredible after the chrome delete :)

I don't know what Lexus was thinking on the LE, everything blacked out, except for the side view mirrors and the IS 500 emblems. I also wish the Lexus logo was blacked out too...

I just got the chrome on the mirrors wrapped today and also swapped the emblems to black.

Looks better with the chrome delete but damn, where and how did you even do this?

Dallas250 01-28-22 08:59 PM

My local wrap place quoted me $679 to do my ES including the front, back, and window trim. Haven’t made the appointment yet but will be getting it done once it warms up a bit so the wrap sticks well.

TreysGS460 01-29-22 02:03 AM

I'm also curious as to how much others are getting this done for? I was quoted $1000 on my GS and laughed at the girl on accident. The next place was $650, but was hoping for less than 500 unless a quality chrome delete needs more dough than that.

I paid $320 for the trim around the windows and mirror spears. I am in Winston Salem, NC.

I was quoted $250 in Florida and decided I’d rather give it a shot myself. Watched this vid to learn the process:

you don’t have to remove the chrome. Take the car to a tint/wrap shop. They can do a chrome delete. I had it done on my old 2021 IZ350
