Going to the dealer is not all bad. They are guaranteed to use OEM parts, have access to the latest service bulletins, and are more likely to follow factory procedures on repairs. Price is not bad if you ask for specific services vs. mileage intervals. Plus you get a loaner and their facilities are much nicer. The convenience and service is worth the cost for some. Time is money.

Are you in Canada? There’s 5 Toyota dealerships in my city none work on Lexus and I called 4-5 different ones in the Toronto area and none touch Lexus.

Depends on where you are located and the resources of the car owner. I know, not all of us have network of friends, but get a good mechanic friend and you will be all set with your cars

I took my 3IS to a Toyota dealership because it's closer and had openings for a quick oil change and honestly I didn't have a great experience. Oil change cost the same as the Lexus dealership, and while they told me about a nail in one of my tires, they didn't bother fixing. Had to go that same day to Discount Tire to get it fixed.

I'm pretty sure they use the same oil as Lexus, they put a 7,500 reminder sticker on my car when the interval is 10k on my car... ymmv of course.

Assuming they even look

Only go to the stealership for the first two free services and any recalls, not that they they do much anyways but they are free and it shows you did them...the rest do yourself or go to a good indie.

IMO - forget the "inspect" pieces of the list (they'll do that anyway) and go a la carte for only the necessary parts/fluid changes at a Toyota dealer.

There are Toyota dealers that will work on Lexus vehicles.
Really when the vehicle is under warranty I could see Toyota Canada taking exception with that, but after warranty, it's fair game!
I know 2 Toyota dealers that will take my IS in gladly.

I just read this, and wow, that guy does not understand the point of tire rotations.

Dealer tech here, at my shop an IS 30k labor rate is 2.8 hours and shop rate is $170/hr. That would be $476 without parts and tax.
0.5 for oil change
0.6 for rotation/brake inspection
0.2 for engine filter
0.3 for cabin filter
0.1 for battery pads
0.1 for key battery
1.0 for replace brake fluid

What are battery pads?

Really..0.2 for an engine air filter. I try to stand up for the dealers when possible, but it's kind hard when you're charging for an engine air filter. What's next, 0.2 for wiper blade inserts.
I know you're not the dealer nor set the pricing...just sharing my POV.

Some anti-corrosion pads that go between the post post/terminal. Actually, we do charge 0.2 for wiper inserts lol

$170 hourly rate???? That’s a typo right?
My cities 2 Lexus dealers charge $125. If that’s not a typo what are they doing to warrant charging almost $50 more than some other Lexus dealers?
