Help bolt pattern confusion...

Default Help bolt pattern confusion...

Hi so I bought some used rims from a garage sale and I checked on the back to make sure the bolt pattern was 5x114.3 ( since that’s the pattern for 2014 Lexus IS 250 ) and it said the 5x114.3 but it also said 5x120. So I assumed it was the right size since it said 5x114.3. ( only has 5 holes ) But when I tried to fit it on my car today it wouldn’t fit .. seemed like the holes were too close together which doesn’t make sense because the other bolt pattern would have been the 5x120 which is bigger ... anyone know why it said 2 bolt patterns and why it didn’t fit ? And also when shopping for aftermarket wheels for a 14 is 250 the correct pattern is 5x114.3 right? The 2 patterns on the back confused the hell outa me thanks ! .. might seem like a stupid question but this is my first set of wheel and I really thought I got the Fitment right.. but I guess not ..

Guessing the wheels were made as blanks, and the holes drilled later to meet the customer need. The two patterns are probably the normal ones used, but were customized with a smaller size for the original purchase.

I see ... thanks that helped a lot. Any way to still use em still ? Or should I just sell em ?

If you can find a shop that can drill them out to the correct size (may not be easy, given the existing holes, but doable if they have the right equipment), I’d think they’d be usable. They shouldn’t ‘slide around on the hub, since you’re going up in size. I wouldn’t do it if you needed to go down in size.

I think first you should figure out what bolt pattern they are...just measure between the centres of two holes, with one hole between them...if that sounds confusing just Google it, you'll find videos that show you how.
If drilling isn't an option, then you could go with adapter spacers...meaning the spacer side that bolts to the vehicle is 5x114.3 with a 60.1mm bore, and the side that bolts to the rim will be 5x??? (whatever the rim actually is).
Personally I don't see an easy solution here, and I would just sell them off and get ones that properly fit. Because the bolt pattern is smaller, by your observation, I don't think they can be drilled bigger because likely the holes will overlap.

I see what your talking about ... I’m on the edge of selling them kinda but I put so much work into them already .. wud hate to see them go ☹️ Are the spacers safe to run tho ? ( lowered in RSR super downs )

The spacers would be no different/safer than running regular spacers on a car. In order to effectively change the bolt pattern though, the spacers would probably have to be 10mm minimum...so you would have to factor that into the fitment of the wheels too...cause the offset would be reduced by 10. So if they are +35, then they would be +25...which would be flush to the fender on a 18x8 rim.

Oh wow I didn’t know that about the spacers and the offset. Now that’s something to think about .. thanks a lot for the help ! In this situation do you think it’s worth it to keep or just get rid of them .?
