Default Independent Lexus auto mechanic

Does anyone know a good Lexus auto mechanic shop in Toronto area who will not mind letting you see him performing the work done on your car? Because Toyota and Lexus dealership don’t allow customers to go into work area. I like to see them change my transmission fluid properly as I don’t have any tools.

Not an independent Lexus shop, but the active green and ross on Lawrence East will let you eat a sandwich under your car while they work on it. I've taken my IS350 to them several times and I've always had free reign and excellent service.

That is a very good question! I was thinking the exact question myself.

Do they have Toyota techstream so they can see without scanner to know what is happening with the car? I saw that you have to get transmission fluid to a certain temperature with either a infrared scanner or use Toyota techstream.

how far from Markham are you? I’m in Ottawa, but visit Toronto and I found a independent Toyota tech that did my transmission fluid change & fuel injector cleaning for around $120... can’t vouch to much as I was there once, small shop, but he let me watch everything. Uses tech stream for both services, super smart older Asian guy let me know if u want his info he advertises on Kijiji

Sounds good. What is his contact? Did he take out transmission pan and wash that and rings inside transmission pan?

No pan drop. It’s not recommended, not even by Lexus. I’m sure if you paid the extra $$$ he could drop it but he and Lexus and everything I’ve seen about it don’t drop the pan on this car. It’s only 18 or so small bolts and a gasket, so like I said something I’m sure he could do if you wanted it. Cleaning the Magnets and pans not a bad idea generally but never heard/seen of people doing it on these particular cars.

Like I said can’t vouch for him to much I’ve only been there once, but I’m going back in a month to do another drain n fill....thats his ad... small messy shop that doesn’t look like much but he knows his stuff.

This reminds me of a sign I saw in an independent shop years ago. It was something like this:

Labor Rates
$75/hour
$90/hour if you watch
$100/hour if you help

Generally mechanics don't like being watched and I don't blame them. I know Longo Lexus in LA has a clear glass window where you can see the service area in general. but you can't exactly set up a lawn chair next to your car and call shots. If you're that concerned, do the work yourself.

Also if the mechanic would allow you to sit up close and watch him, I would take that as a sign that that mechanic has bad judgment. If hot transmission fluid ends up spraying on your face and causing serious burns, there goes his shop.

XD Which mechanics stood out to you? Who would you take your car back to for service?
