Resonator Delete or Invidia Exhaust.. but had a question
Was thinking about getting my resonators deleted for a higher sound after getting my mufflers chopped off. Had a quick question though, I saw the invidia axleback exhaust, I saw some videos, it sounded ok. But then, I saw it with a "invidia midpipe" which sounded amazing. What does a midpipe attach to in an exhaust system? To the catalytic converter where the resonator is? I can't find a clear answer on this.
Any thoughts on resonator delete and what it sounds like? Ty

Resonators are there to keep the raspy noise down when you rev the car up...Most aftermarket midpipes (including Invidia) is still resonated but does not come with the secondary cat (the one on the OEM midpipe), taking this out of the midpipe is to make the exhaust note deeper and more throaty. And to your concern...taking the secondary cats will not throw a check engine light as long as you do not touch the primary cats on the downpipe (o2 sensors are after primary cats but before secondary cats, so the car won't know if you take the secondary cats out). When I tried to get a midpipe, there were no option available for the AWD models, which I went ahead and took off the secondary cats. With a good resonator choice, same results can be achieved as getting an aftermarket midpipe....

Confirming that a midpipe without secondary cats won't throw engine lights or the like.
If you like the sound of the full cat-back Invidia system, then you're likely looking for something fairly loud. Removing exhaust components will accomplish that, but then it depends what quality of sound you want. If you want it to sound like a tractor, run straight pipes. If you want it to sound like a raspy ricer, go without resonators. If you want it louder, remove the secondary cats and/or mufflers. But if you want a decent sound -- louder but still reasonably refined -- then typically you need both resonators and mufflers to shape the sound.
