Default Who has used their extended warranty and for what?

While Lexus is a highly reliable car, there is debate on the logic of spending $1-2K on an extended warranty. With electronic parts and repairs at times exceeding $1500, for some it makes sense. More and more forum members complain about the navi or another electronic part going, and the cost being astronomical. I did not buy one, but my full coverage ends in October...so I'm debating.

So, what repairs were done, what year is your car, and how many miles on it at time of repair?

I'd never touch an extended warranty, particularly on a Lexus. But that's cause I know how to work on cars and shop. You can find used parts all day long dirt cheap on eBay. But really nothing is ever going to go wrong on these cars other than wear and tear. Warranties are a huge cash cow business raking in millions. I'm sure they especially love it when a Lexus owner gets one. Never gets used.

I have zero worries about drivetrain issues, my worry is the electronics.

This is the reason I bought one. I had my original radio unit replaced under original warranty (2014). The part is over $5K, can't imagine what they'd charge for labor.
Chances are that I won't need it, but, I'm covered for 2 1/2 more years and 35,000 more miles.

I had the funds and have piece of mind.

A low mileage (under 5k) engine isn't even 5k. Stock radios are dime a dozen on eBay for $299. Shouldn't take more than half hour to bolt in. Cars aren't that hard to work on.

Just to clarify, my issue wasn't just a radio. It was the whole navigation/radio system. Constant loops and freezing. The part replaced was PN 86804-53221, whatever that entails. So, not a dime a dozen on ebay. I'm sure one could be found, but there's no way I'd put an electronic in my car that has previously been in a accident.

Not everybody is comfortable working on cars.

I was wondering if you have a link to a legit seller selling a working, 30 day warranteed unit for $299? An Ebay electronics purchase at >$50 is risky business, much more so at $299. How do you manage these variables?

>$5K...had no idea. So basically, at the end of the day, the entire process could cost upwards of 5.5K. This has been my worry, the electronics are unpredictable, the mechanics much less so.

Thanks for the info.

I'm worried about the infortainment as well but I found couple places that specializes on lexus infotainment repair for under 500. So its not 3k how dealers would charge.
