Actually, they have fixed the issues for the 2018 model. I did not notice any problems whatsoever during a test drive. Goes to show how important software is.

That's what I was told as well that 2018 models don't have ZF9 issue.

I had 2006 TL 6MT for 12.5 years. It slowly started to fall apart. Right side windows not working, ac stopped working (probably just refill freon gas), navi stopped working (think dvd rom failed), cv joint went bad, home like (remote garage opener and etc) failed, and few things here and there. Only repair I did to that car was replacing alternator but everything else was just regular maintenance.

I test drove 2018 TL ASPEC SHAWD and wasn't sold by the way they look mostly. I sat in the back seat and felt almost the same as my 2006!

I then test drove 2018 IS350 Fsport rwd and immediately sold. I don't regret a thing about not staying with Acura.

Objectively, Toyota/Lexus is a vastly superior brand to Honda/Acura, particularly in terms of reliability. I can write you a detailed 10 page report on this.

In summary, the engines aren't bad, but Honda is NOTORIOUS for having the crappiest automatic transmissions, even to this modern day. The latest latest LATEST Honda/Acura transmissions are newest 10 speed spec/design likely sourced by ZF, so things may change. But Lexus is the golden standard for reliability and quality.

It's better though to discuss particular cars vs. generalization. Because you're buying a car, not a brand. But in general, Lexus is #1 when it comes to dependability. And the newest Lexuses are RWD where all hondas are FWD based. So driving dynamics, no contest--Lexus wins again (vs. acura)
You nailed it!! I've owned a 14 e350 coupe and still have 08 g37S coupe. and I have a 14 IS250 F sport and by far the IS is the wins them both despite the lake in power, however the the driving dynamic is top notch not to mention about the reliability and fit and finish is superb.

What I think they have is the "fixed" ZF. The original ZFs in the 2015 had delayed shifting issues from 1-2 and most notably 2-3. I fought Acrua for just over a year, but really what took so long was finding a fix. It's was a hardware issue - software could not fix it. I got the "fixed" replacement transmission mid-2016 and can confirm the replacement did fix the delayed shift problems. I'm still a member of the Acura forum where this problem got discussed in length, and the replacement transmissions do fix the shifting issue. I suspect that some time in 2016 the fixed version found it's way into the production line, which is why the 2018's are OK off the lot (maybe the 17's too). People with 2015's are still having to fight Acura to get replacement transmissions.

Shifting issue aside, TLX owners still complain about huge lags in downshifting (which I can verify), and also marginal power transfer from the engine (was bad in the original, bit better in the replacements). When I was on the highway, going say 50 mph and needed to punch it, there was a clean 2 second delay where the car would do nothing. It wouldn't accelerate. Then it would launch. This was a huge problem if you needed to dart out into a lane that was moving faster than yours. I nearly got rear ended several times until I figured out how to time it. So when I said the ZF in that car was awful, it wasn't just because of the rough shifts. It was a bad choice all around IMO.
