My understanding of the difference is all in the valves. On the 2GR-FSE, both the intake and exhaust valves use VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence). On the FKS, they use VVT-iW (Variable Valve Timing Intelligent Wide) on the intake and VVT-i on the exhaust. VVT-iW is what allows the engine to run in the Atkinson Cycle under low load conditions.
doesn’t seem like anything too crazy, fuel economy is terrible to begin with so i think it’s time for the TTV6

I have a 2017 IS350 GCC/Middle East specs.
When I bought the car, it said that it has 311HP on the spec sheet. And even according to the dealer there was a 5 hp bump.
I just want to confirm this; is a way to see the name of the engine, for example?
And if that is true, would that mean the car has the LSD? Sorry I haven't drifted the car yet *noob*

On the underside of your hood you should have a sticker like this that identifies if you have the 2GR-FSE or a 2GR-FKS.

If I lived near you I totally would have, lol - and I have one in Atomic Silver, too.

There's an Atomic Silver RC 350 parked at my office parking lot every day, and I park next to that car every once in a while haha.

You can clearly see that the 2018 has notable physical differences.

I *was* going to purchase at Santa Monica Lexus but it didn't seem too much like they wanted to deal, negotiate, etc, so a Lexus dealer in Orange County not only delivered the car to me, the sales folks hung out for drinks for a couple hours while demo'ing the car

How long are you guys gonna go with no License Plates?!

I think the finance guy at the local dealer said i can go legally for 2 months. I have a Grimspeed tow hook license plate holder sitting in my garage...

^^^ That first white one is not a 17. It’s a 14-16.

for the different engine codes, is it because MY18 got the 5hp bump?

Yes. The newly updated engine also can run the Atkinson cycle when under light loads and has a higher redline.

What they should do, in my opinion, is re-calibrate the engine for LESS peak HP, instead giving it some "big motor torque in the lower RPM's were it's useful 99% of the time. It's just not good to have (by far) the best torque above 4000 RPM, combined with a transmission that does it's best to keep you below 4000 RPM.
But, of course, that wouldn't allow their silly marketing that claims things like it's more powerful than a "300HP" BMW turbo 3-liter, which is a bad joke.
