IS turbo RPM's
Does anyone know if it's normal to have car shift between 4200 and 5400 rpm's when in sport mode. Say like going from 0 to 60. Also is it normal to hold gear for so long?
Thanks |

Yes. It only does it when I drive full throttle. I thought 5,000 rpm's may have been too high. I guess normal for that type of driving in that mode

It will go all the way to redline if you want it to. Sports mode will hold the gears a lot longer and shift the shifting points higher in the RPM range, depending on throttle position.
The IS transmission has a G sensor that will hold the gear when you're cornering or driving on curvy roads. |
I guess I step on it too hard. I still didn't think rpms would go over 5,000. Maybe because it'sa 4 cylinder.

So it's normal to have car hit 5500 rpm's when pushing it hard? Can an auto actually get close to red line?

If you disable traction completely and switch to manual gear shift you can take the car into redline, but it will bounce off around 6200rpm.

Thanks for the replies. I was just worried that my car may be slipping or something. I didn't think it would go do high so easily, but then again I Never had a semi-performance type of car. Plus it only has 3900 miles. Should be fine...

The reason I ask is because this came up a couple of weeks ago. Lexus said the code was due to possibly a bad tank of gas. I always buy 91 octane. Maybe I just won't use 76 brand gas anymore. Either way it seemed to run fine now. I really not too worried as the car is a lease and still under warranty, but I want it to run optimal for the remaining 2 plus years that I have to drive.https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...56bad05c94.jpg

So true. But my insurance would of went up 50 bucks a month. Plus I got the car for $32,800. Roughly $7,000 off MSRP...
