Default Buy 2017 IS 200t now or wait for 2018 model?

Hey everyone. I’m currently leasing a 2015 Lexus IS250 F Sport which is on a month to month extension till January so I can end it anytime.

Now I am looking to purchase a 2017 Lexus IS 200t F Sport. I figured with the 2018’s coming out soon there are good deals to be had. Best I’ve found is $38k OTD (includes all taxes/fees) and hoping to get that down to as close to $37k.

But my question is, would it be worth it to wait for the 2018 and purchase that instead of the 2017 model? Any benefits by going that route or waiting till December?

Any advice welcome!

As I understand it, the 2018 IS line won't have a leather interior

do not purchase the 200t if you care about power and pickup. It’s no faster than the is250 and most people regret no getting the 350.

with that being said, wait a bit longer for December to remember for larger discounts.

I care about power just not to the extent of willing to pay a premium for it. I've been happy with my 250 overall and IF I did choose to get the 2018 I would get the renamed IS 300 which I believe comes with the same engine as the 200t.

Let me ask you this, I'm currently holding conversations with dealers and I'm fairly certain I can get close to $37k OTD for the 2017 IS 200t F Sport. Would you still recommend waiting till the "December to remember" time to get an even bigger discount on the 2017?

December to Remember is a gimmick to get people into the dealership. There is no actual sale and the interest rates are the same year round. 2018 models should arrive in 3-4 weeks if you want to wait. I do no think there are any improvements as the 2017 is already the refreshed model. $37k OTD is a very good price. When I bought my 200T, it was $42k OTD, with a lot of bargaining.

I am considering IS200t myself as I formally had a 2011 IS250 F-Sport. The question I have is that is there concerns about the turbo lag? I understand there is if I were to go WOT from a stop, but for general use driving and if I need the power for overtaking or for emergency, it is not much of a delay correct?

It is actually the same engine as the 350 but lower HP. The odd thing I find about it is that the MPG ratings is rated the same between the two models.

whats the msrp? If it’s around 20% off, then it’s pointless to wait. December to remember is just a way for lexus to clear out inventory with steep discounts from depreciation.

I'm interested in the delay answer as well.

No, the 2018 IS 300 RWD will have the turbo engine, and it replaces the IS 200t. The IS 300 AWD has the detuned 3.5-liter. Lexus has officially jumped on the nonsensical naming bandwagon it seems...

I was not aware about renaming for 2018. Thanks for the info as I just looked it up as it is confusing as I have not kept up.

My reply was based on the IS 300 AWD under that convention. I suspect it was detruned or more like remapped but was not sure which was the better accurate term. I recall moderator Jeff Lange posted a graph of the two engine on the forums but do not recall there that is.

Yeah, to be honest "detuned" is the way I've heard it typically described, but in practice the torque is limited once you hit about 4200 RPM. In the dyno graph the horsepower dips a bit at 4200 before coming back up to a peak at about 6500. At least the output, particularly torque, is somewhat underrated.

From my drive of the 200t, I'd say the 300 AWD feels a lot more responsive and slightly quicker overall. There is still a slight throttle delay, but you can remedy this with Sport mode or the Apexi throttle controller. (I am considering picking one up but haven't gotten around to it yet.)

nabeel24, you should wait. this is why: I drove it yesterday the 2017 is200t sport. It was fast okay. The Inside of the car was plastic alot of it too. For that kind of money. Look at the dashboard. Look how sit does not blend well and the LCD navigation screen is not built in well. It sticks out like its own peice. Like aftermarket. The leather was not comfortable as my old IS 250 2010. More plush. This was like riding a Stiff board. 38K is the best deal for that car. Besides speed, i mean the inside of the car looks like a Beach car with an Old mans stop watch in the middle of the dash. If you get this car We will Joke the heck outta ya. Look at what you can by for 38k. I would wait for 2018, or look for a different type of model. Dont pay for plastic. Just dont. Take my super advice. By the way it was good on speed, out ran the cops the other day. But I mean come nabeel24.

WTF... The 2018 model has the same interior as the 2017, or so I thought. It even has the same "Old mans stop watch". If it's different can you please provide some references, i.e. pictures? Thank you.
