apples to oranges but thought i'd provide my average as another point of reference. i also live in LA, about 20 miles daily in traffic for my work commute on the 405 and surface streets. i drive it hard pretty much all the time, in manual whenever there is any open space (and when it's safe, of course), and average about 14 to 15 mpg on the tank. so, your 13 mpg does seem really off.

Thanks for the reference, albeit assuming you don't drive a 3rd generation IS.

Also, a bit off topic, but how do "open spaces" or "safety" correlate with manual shifting? Not sure what ya mean since I engage manual whenever and wherever regardless of traffic ...

Did you RESET your average mpg calculator? Hold the middle button on the right-hand side of the steering wheel. NOTE - Best to Reset MPG after each refuel.

Also, are you using premium gas? And what kind of commuting are you doing?

For reference, on my IS350, my old job is mostly all hwy. ~30 miles each way (~60 miles total/day). I drive in ECO mode, and hovering around 2K RPM, and I average 23-24 mpg combined.

My NEW job, is ~12 miles each way (~25 miles total/day). However, mostly stop-n-go traffic and city driving. I drive in ECO mode, RPM varies, and I average about 20-21 mpg combined.

My car has ~20k odo, the only time I saw my car with even crappier MPG was when it was brand new.

correct, i do not drive a 3IS but rather an 09' isf. i drive in manual 90% of the time, after i hit two bars on the oil temp. i was just saying i drive spiritedly whenever there are 'open spaces' or when it's "safe", i.e. minimal traffic. :)

Take a road trip away from LA and see how it does. I'm sure it won't be 13 mpg anymore

Agreed here. I have a 2016 IS350 with just under 10K miles. With a short commute and around town driving about 85% of the time, I have seen 12.8 MPG, 14.1 MPG, etc. The car is getting negative mileage per gallon while idling in traffic. When I go to my folks' place, I refuel and reset the AVG MPG and I get 24 mpg on SoCal freeways, which on weekends, are moving along ok.

One of the things I noticed was how thirsty my Lexus was compared to my old bmw. Used to get almost 30 mpg and I drove that thing fairly hard as well. Now I get on average about 20-22 mpg driving it on Eco, and being fairly gentle with the throttle. My Subaru does about that, and it's not exactly tuned to be fuel saving.

seems though that low to mid 20s is fairly common. Guess I'll just live with it haha. 13 seems a bit low though. From my own experience, it still takes a bit of effort to drive it down that far

I've had my 2015 3IS for a short while, and hand calculate MPG. I've seen as low as 15 mpg around town, and as high as 28 mpg on a highway / road trip. 13 mpg wouldn't be abnormal to me with a mix of (mostly) stop and go traffic, with some spirited runs intermixed.

My 11+ year average on the IS350 was 21.6 mpg. You can see the big change in mpg when I moved from the suburbs to the country.

dude... you don't know how much effort I'm putting into it NOT being down that far... Almost always ECO or Normal, A/C turned off, avoiding spirited driving, waiting for traffic to die down, etc, etc, etc.

LOL, the car doesn't do that. I log all my fill ups in an app.

I was ready to be skeptical, then I saw you're in LA 🤣
