got 19k (original stock pads) out of my brakes (i drive, and stop, this car pretty hard too). the pad change-out was a breeze. thanks for the write-up.
btw...took a good look at my tire wear while the tires were off and they wearing as even as i could ever want with at least a 16th of an inch of tread before getting to the wear indicators.

^Great. Do you have stock bushings? And what kind of tires? all season or summers?
The summers raise the coefficient of friction thereby increasing wear to the brakes and all other components. A necessary evil with this car =D
i can't believe your tires wore evenly, even out to the very inside edge?

Thanks OP for the useful info, used it to change my front pads today.
A couple of notes from my experience:
1. The little safety pin was rotated 180 degrees, so it could not be pulled straight out. Looks like by design, as the indent it is in in the caliper will keep it from coming out. Used a pliers to grab the end of the caliper pin and rotated it so the safety pin head was exposed, and then grabbed it with the pliers to pull it out. After the pads were in, and the pin back in, I rotated the safety pin back so its head was again inside the caliper.
2. Using a C-clamp to retract the pistons by squeezing the brake pad backing plate and caliper, just didn’t work for me, as the surface wasn’t flat, so I just used a big pliers and squeezed them by hand.
