Wow. The 2017 is roughly 200 lbs heavier than the 2014-2016 IS! It also takes roughly 0.5 seconds longer to 60. I'll take the pre-refresh thank you.

Edit: C&D says 3783 lbs while my product spec sheet from Lexus for the 2015 model says 3583 lbs. Big discrepancy.

The 3783 lbs was from the C&D spec for the 2017 RWD is350 from the article. The 3593 is from spec sheet for the 2014-2015 IS350 RWD F sport. This difference in weight could account for the difference in 0-60 times. Also, doesn't the new 2017s come with a bunch of new safety equipment? May be responsible for the increase in weight?

that doesn't seem right for a RWD IS, more like an AWD IS, mine is 3737 pounds and it's a 2017 300

the car mags don't take the manufacturer's word on the curb weight specs, they place the vehicle on an actual scale. that's how they determine the F/R weight ratio as well.

no car mag that i have ever seen has ever had the is350 rwd weighing in at less than 3700 lbs:
C&D 5/13 3705 lbs
C&D 7/17 3785 lbs
MT 8/13 3797 lbs
R&T 9/13 3704 lbs

for reference: IS200t RWD C&D 11/16 3798 lbs; C&D 11/15 3717 lbs
IS350 AWD MT 6/13 3846 lbs

The amount of gasoline is one...another could be C&D is weighing the car with someone sitting in it so its more of a realistic weight expectation.

If the 0-60 time and roadholding are accurate, that's kind of a shame. IS 300 would only be 0.1 seconds slower to 60 (and per my testing, realistically only 0.2 seconds slower), and the roadholding is quite bad in the segment, especially for a "sport" trim. Maybe the tires aren't so good this time? I think they had the Turanzas for this review.

The 2017 numbers are noticeably slower than the 2014 numbers. It could be a number of things in the refresh causing this or just a bad day at the track?

Ugh, don't read the Backfires section unless you want a bunch of commentary from uninformed keyboard warriors who looked at the 0-60 time and nothing else.

"DURR, WHY LEXUS SO SLOW? BMW 330i MUCH BETTER!"

I'm paraphrasing, of course.

Pretty good review. They seem to understand that the real strength of the car is in its handling. Fantastic car.

I'd like to see more 2017 reviews for a better acceleration baseline. On the '14s, it was fairly consistently testing at 5.3 to 5.6 seconds.

What? I test drove the 328 and 335 with sport pack before purchasing the IS350. The 328 was slower but the 335 was faster...both had worse handling vs the IS350. The 340 improved but the dead feel in the steering still makes it less fun than the IS350 (my buddy has one fully loaded). The 330 may / may not be slightly faster but if it has the same handling as the 340, i'll take the 350 all day long. Also, the BMW interior is so dated...can't wait for the new model to come out.

Better is subjective depending on if you're talking about one specific item or the car overall.
Clearly the 330i is not an overall better car.

I also tested and almost bought a 3 series but greatly favored the IS350. The only thing that made the decision tough was the BMW manual transmission. In the end, the IS just felt better to me.
