IS F Sport complete re-design 2019?
First post here. I'm in the market for an F Sport 2017/18, most likely an IS 350. Word on the street is a complete re-design planned for 2019 which probably goes on sale around 2018.
Now, is the Lexus IS based on a Toyota Camry chassis? OR shall I say this, a Corolla chassis? Neither?
Reason I ask is because the 2018 Camry is doing some really interesting things to the redesign, most noticeable the rear pillars and rear facias. The top model looks like a nice design, and will some of those design features influence the 2019 IS model. Anyways I'm on the fence. Should I buy the last of the generation 3 model or wait. Really like the 2017 models but is the 2019 model worth waiting for.

Not at all based on Camry or corolla. IS is RWD

The IS is not based on the Camry or Corolla chassis. I could be wrong, but I believe at least the older ES was based on the Camry platform. As for the redesign, I haven't heard anything. Seeing as how the last gen design went for 7 years (2006-2013) and with the 2017 getting a facelift, I'm not sure a complete redesign would come so quickly. But who knows.

18-19 way too soon. Likely looking at 20, maybe 21 for new model. I think there may be a third life cycle update. but nothing crazy.

Thanks for the speedy replies all. Just in case you wondered where I received the information, I received it from Automotive News. Looked legit.

I'll be test driving this weekend. Thrilled. Can't decide between AWD or RWD.

Yeah, that doesn't look like an accurate source of data.
The LC500 is new for '18, not '16. The NX is refreshed for '18, not '17. The LS500 is new for '18, not '17. The RX was redesigned in '16, not '17. CT is discontinued in the US, not redesigned for '18. No redesign for the IS in '19, but I do believe the next GS and ES will be for '19 as indicated.

^I thought Lexus was cancelling the next GS as it was redundant to the ES?

The IS is based off of the GS chassis. You won't see a complete redesign next year as a 2019, the IS just got a facelift so this more or less indicates that it is currently half way its cycle before the new redesign. One hint you could get about when the IS will have a complete new model is by looking at the GS. When the GS comes out with a new design, you can almost say the IS redesign will come a year after and I know there are rumors about the GS being discontinued because of poor sales but the new code for the next redesign is already out there (supposedly 300B is the development code) So I would say you won't see a new IS until at least 2020

I figure if they killed the GS, they would also kill the IS as its costly to have developed a chassis for one production car. Maybe they'd use the corolla chassis and make the IS a small version of the ES if they killed the GS

^^^ Make the bad dream stop!
FWIW, the JDM Toyota Crown also uses the chassis, so even without the GS, the chassis will still be shared.
GS sales for this gen are in line or better than previous gens at this point in the life cycle.

Put me also in the camp of those thinking that the new IS will be a 2020 MY coming out in 2019.....so another 2 years from now would be my bet.

i think not until 2021, 2nd Gen IS from 2006 to 2013 and completely designed for 2014 model year. that total of 8 years. Luxury car takes time to redesign back in the day so people can enjoy the styling and model, now it seems like they rushing to change modeling style, 2017 IS with complete different bumper. looks like 2019 to redesign and i think not untill 20-21, some people still havn't pay off the car and new IS comes out hihihi

what kind of car is next in line for you since you're hoping to get rid of the IS prior to the next generation's release? i'm looking heavily at the audi a4 but that will be late in its current lifecycle, so perhaps i might keep the current IS until the 4IS is released or keep it even longer and wait for the new a4 to come out.
