Aftermarket paint protectant (3m?) turned blue??
I have a black IS and had to have the front lower portion of the grill replaced a while ago. When the auto body shop did this, they used this guy that's in a small, hard to find, little shop in town. I paid extra to have him add some to the original around the area just in front of the rear wheel well for $370. I think. I can't remember what the total cost was for the initial replacement of original clear bra/3m on the insurance claim.
Anyway, now every section he did is turning blue. Especially in the sunlight.
I took the car down to the auto body shop and showed them. They agreed it looked bad. They also agreed to "make it right"
so, they called the guy that originally installed it and they agreed to fix it.
Here re is my problem:
do do I want someone that did this in the first place touch my otherwise beautiful car again??
what would you guys do?
*** I have a good working relationship with the auto body shop that did the work from having all of my work vehicles worked on. So, I am hoping they will just have someone else fix it.

Unfortunately I live in an area with very little resources.
I am thinking that I will either get the money re-embersed and use someone else to fix over in the valley. Or find someone else local.
What are are your thoughts?

Realistically I can just dump it it on the body shop and drop it off and get a loaner car until she is done right.
Anyone ever dealt with with something like this?

I seriously don't think is is the installers fault. Seems more like a material/glue residue issue. I saw a car once with the 3M removed and it had the same issue. They were able to do paint correction and remove the residue "haze", and re-apply new film. BUT I suspect the paint as most black paints have some traces of blue pigment. Is it OE paint? If not, I may almost attribute it to being a paint issue.

I don't know how to answer your question.
The product was applied to the new bumper, and the rear passenger doors, which were factory Lexus paint. The front was re-painted, so it is different paint.
however, it is the same blue on every area he did.
Body shop said to go by this guys shop and he will "make it right"

In all honesty that entire experience//story is pretty scary. Today I spoke to a "Mobile Body Work" guy who said he could do it, I asked him if he has lots of experience in clear bra installation to which he responded "oh ya, I'll go buy the 3M stuff, you also need a heat gun, blah, blah". LOL
I'm starting to get rather skeptical about NOT getting this done at a dealership, or a shop who will assume complete accountability & utter responsibility for a job gone bad. GOOD LUCK!!

Have them use expel or suntek instead and you won’t have discoloring issue now or few years from now.
