Default 2017 IS350 sounds a lot better than 2009 IS350

comparing stock to stock, my current 2017 IS350 F Sport sounds awesome compare to the Camry quiet of my previous 2009 IS350. the motors are the same, transmissions are different, but i doubt the sound improvement is from the tranny. the current IS350 has that deep throaty sound whenever i step on the accelerator unlike the previous gen IS350. anyone else notice this?

It's probably the sound actuator (which if you don't know, pipes sound into the cabin - real sound, not digital).

theres a flap on the intake pipe that opens at higher throttles, makes the engine sound deeper

Not sure of the 2017 IS350, but the is200t has a thing called ASC; it is a scrolling **** and is located where the BSM/AUTO High beam buttons are. This pumps engine noise into the cabin, and makes a deeper sound. IMO, sounds fake lol.

You might wanna double check the is350 has this or not.

Note: this option was recently added to 2017 IS.

It's not real sound - this option was on the RC 200t last year. In the 300/350, you can't turn the sound generator off. If you replace the intake tube, it will effectively remove the sound generator though.

I removed the sound maker (which is what you're hearing) when I installed my intake. Not a fan of the fake sound. Maybe I'm old but I enjoy the quiet comfort sound =)

I agree in some aspects, but when I want it to be loud, it's loud.

Also to clarify, it's not "fake" per se, just amplified.

The ASC is available in the RC350 as well. I just drove it. Can't confirm on the IS350 though.

TBH, the ASC makes the engine noise sound so digital to the point that it feels fake. Maybe it is amplified, but I personally don't like it.

Wait, really? I figured in the 350 they'd use the same tech as in the GS/IS 350 and just pipe in the real noise. Then again, even on the RC F there's ASC...

The ASC on the GS F and RC F is different from the ASC and intake sound generator on the other models. In the GS F and RC F it supposedly doesn't really add in digital sound, but uses a frequency based noise cancellation system to cancel out some of the less pleasant noises so the pure engine noise is more easily heard. I haven't tried it out, but that's what I read anyway.

Lol idk man. The RC imo is just a fail car by Lexus. Its not any faster than an IS. And the price is 3-4k more for similar equipped.

Loaded RC350, 54k. Loaded IS350 ~49.5k.

If anyone is looking for a brand new RC F (2016). There's 3 sitting in the showroom lmao. 20k mark down.

RCF is an awesome car and worth it with the mark downs. The RC-350 is waaay too heavy for a sports coupe.

Yeah, there was a CPO RC F at my dealership in USB for $57k. 10k miles. Really wondering if I should have saved up a few more months lol
Nah, I love my IS.
