It does not happen all the time, but I've heard it 3 times this past week, during slow speed came to a complete stop. According a guy who does a lot of work on 3IS this is a known issue with this car, the problem is the brake pads. Anyone else noticed this?

From what I know.. this the norm for performance brake pads. If you want quieter ones, check our ceramic pads. Akebono makes pretty good ones.
(Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

If you're hearing the noise after the car cold soaks (sits for 8+ hours without moving) for the first couple brake applications, it's pretty normal.
Where the vehicle parks, the weather, and ambient temperature are all contributing factors.
The OEM pads are a compromise of performance, noise, and wear.
The ceramic pads above will give you less noise, less dust, but also less performance. Although as noted many times on the forum, unless you're tracking the car, you probably won't notice the lower performance from the ceramic pads.

I went over this before. It's not an "issue" Embrace it. You bought a car that has performance brakes. If you want camry quiet, you get a camry.
I've went into the technical aspects of why this "issue" happens. but I'm tired of typing it out every time someone posts this kind of thread.
In short, it's not an issue. It's awesome. you WANT noise to happen. It's GREAT it's happening. Don't sweat it.
You can "fix it" but it'll come back promptly. IT's inherent to the design.
Wash your car often and it'll help mitigate the noise somewhat.
