How to clean the engine and appliqué?
How to clean the engine? My IS 200T is about 11 months old now. Under the hood is getting pretty dusty.
1) Has anyone cleaned their Lexus IS engine? If you did, what do you recommend?
2) Can I use a reef blower and blow all the dust out?
3) There's this plastic protector ( appliqué ) thing on the rear passenger doors. Does anyone know how to clean the edges? I can see black linings now collected from dirt. Same thing goes for the rear bumper too. How do I clean the appliqué edges?

You can power blast with water any engine on any car anywhere in the world. Doesn't matter. Engines are designed to get wet/drenched/etc. People overthink this and think its some mythical being.
The only thing I would recommend since this 200t engine gets hot really fast, make sure you do this on a cold engine. luke warm if you must. You wouldn't want to thermally shock the turbo or other very hot parts. Do it stone cold. Blow, wash, scrub, soap to your hearts content.
Here's a post I wrote about what kind of stuff I do to my car (at the time--BMW): http://www.e46mango.com/2016/03/mang...tips-what.html

Waterproof is not really the right term.
Water-resistant would be better.
Exercise extreme caution when washing under the hood. Make no mistake, your warrenty does not cover any damage as a result of this.
Engines can get wet, but not pressure washer wet. I'd use a garden hose personally. And if it all possible, try and avoid it and just use some damp rags to wipe things down instead. Compressed air will do wonders removing the bulk of dust with a little wipe down after.
