Curb rashed Velgen VMB5's :(
Well,
Cavs win and unfortunately I drove my car to downtown Cleveland and when I was leaving a parking garage, I tried to squeeze through and exit and heard my rim scrape the curb. Luckily, only two spokes and the outer rim only got rashed. It look terrible since it's a black wheel, with yellow and white on it now :( I know that worst case scenario, I'll have to purchase a new wheel, which I can do but I really don't want to... I'm in the Cleveland area and was wondering if anyone knows of any shops that can repair it. Is Satin Black a fairly easy color to patch up? I know this was bound to happen, but it upsets me because I've only had these wheels on for about a week and a half. Pure stupidity and I'm just mad at myself right now. |

Here's a picture so you all can see. I'm guessing all that yellow is from the curb paint :( |
I would first be optimistic and try rubbing/polishing off the yellow paint. Then I would contact one of the wheel refinishing companies in you area (maybe ask your dealer) and again hope for the best. This looks repairable.

Thanks.
I'll see what I can do when I get home this evening from work. I have a friend who has a friend that does powdercoating and he says it should be able to be repaired. Although he did mention that he can't do spot repairs, which makes sense because it might look weird with it being refinished on those spots rather than the entire wheel so it's smooth again. I assume that other refinishing companies will do the entire wheel as well. I also just shot Velgen an e-mail about this to see what they say I should do. Just trying to get input from everyone I can. Thanks again |
Proof that nothing good comes from Cleveland winning the 'ship.
Damn you LeBron! |
On top of this... I sliced my finger by my drone.
Overall, it was a terrible night for me. |

Overall, it was a terrible night for me. A wheel shop completely rebuilt my gti wheel once after I destroyed it on a rock. Just call local wheel shops there are in the phone book most of their websites are terrible at best. |
Lmao. The city of Cleveland has been partying nonstop it's amazing. But unfortunately my car and myself got injured ☹️
I am meeting up with someone in a bit to take a look at my wheel. He is going to refinish the entire wheel with Satin Black for $150. Is that pretty reasonable? Figured it's worth a shot instead of spending 400 on another wheel and potentially doing it again. |

Side note: How's the hankooks V12 you got there? Thinking between Continentals or Hankooks when it's time for me.
I had hankooks they were great. This time around I bought bfgoodrich based on tire rack reviews and my god they are noisy! I hate them. |
Well, enjoy that win. I know we enjoyed 2 w/ LeBron. Good times.. :(
Anyways, sorry man. The other day I curb rashed my stock ones. I don't know. |

The Hankooks have been pretty nice. I haven't been driving like a madman around twisties as I leave that for when I'm on my bike. I mainly do highway driving to and from work, and they seem pretty solid and quiet. We shall see how long they last. There was a crazy rain storm on my way to work a week ago and they were fine. Didn't sense any hydroplaning, but then again everyone was driving about 30 mph because you could barely see in front of you. |

UPDATE! I got my wheel touched up, and honestly I can't even tell where it got hit. Apparently it was mainly just surface scratches and nothing too deep. This is the outcome... |
Great job you can't tell. I have the same wheels. Blacks are easy to touch up. Now enjoy the Cavs parade and don't curb your wheels while you're at it!!! :)
|
Unfortunately I'll be missing the parade. I'm at work lol.
I'll probably head downtown after work just to see what's going on. But I probably won't take my car. I'll take the motorcycle and lane split my way down there. Traffic was terrible this morning. 1,000,000 people officially in Cleveland. |
