Rear wheel hub/axle nut issue
So i'll try and keep this short. Im replacing the rear passenger hub assembly and as soon as i put a significant amount of torque to the axle nut...i get a crazy grinding noise and the hub becomes very difficult to turn. When I disassembled the old assembly it took very little effort to push the axle freely in the splines of the hub after i took the 32mm nut off. Now when i start to get the grinding, i remove the axle nut and it take some serious whacks with a larger hammer and brass drift to free the axle spline in the hub.
Ive dug around online and found someone that had to slip a couple pieces of wood in between the sheetmetal dust sheild and the end of the axle to fully seat it, but from inspecting it during disassembly it didnt look like it could go too far in the hub? Anybody got some obvious wisdom i may be missing??

so for anybody that might search for this, here is what i had to do.
I broke down and got a subscription to Alldata. It instructs you to actually press in the small dustsheild into the hub/ knuckle sub-assembly....yeah, im not doing that. So I took the post from somebody on here a few years back and cut a couple small pieces of 1/8 steel flat bar and slipped them in between the drive axle CV and the dustshield. I then simply tightened the axle nut to press the dustshield in until it bottomed out. Axle moved freely in the hub and all is well. Reinstalled the rotor, caliper and set parking brake to torque axle nut to 214 lb/ft. Stake nut, put on wheel and torque lug nuts. No strange grinding anymore.
I didnt think that shield needed to be pressed in as it came off with really no effort...but i guess i was wrong! Below is a pic i snapped of the metal shims i used to press the shield in.
