I was looking at how dirty my muffler tips were and trying to see if I can remove them to paint black when I noticed a rock sticking out of one of the holes of the plastic piece under the trunk with the fins on it. I started tapping on it and tons of tiny rock and gravel fell out of the holes. Where does all of the gravel come from and is it normal??

hah yeah. not sure why that happens. also seen the same thing on mines when i pulled it off to attempt diffuser install.
poor design is my guess and rocks that kick up while driving just lands up in that tray and collect over time to how much you see.
