Default Is there a special touch to locking the car via SmartAccess?

Hey everyone. I am new to my Lexus and have owned the car a month now. I love it. The only part of the car I haven't quite figured out though, is locking the car via SmartAccess. About 50% of the time, I can't get the car to lock on the first try by placing my hand on the door handle and touching the sensor with my thumb. Tonight I tried 3 times before giving up, digging the key fob out of my pocket, and doing it manually. Its frustrating.

Is there something i'm doing wrong, or is there a special touch I'm missing somewhere?

To avoid having my palm touch, I literally just use my index finger on the sensor

This. I just use my pointer finger to touch the indent/sensor. If you grip the handle you'd be telling it to unlock.

If you have your phone in the same pocket as your keys it won't work as the phone blocks the key fob frequency. However, if they are in different pockets, you can just use a touch it.
