if you are talking about cutting into your intake box, you can

Would I recommend it? no

You don't want junk getting into your engine

what? no. if you're talking about the 'cutting a hole in the lower box' mod, it will not get junk into your engine. the air coming in from that hole will still go through the filter.

the inspiration came from seeing an extra hole in the factory f-sport lower box.

You already have a sound tube going into the cabin for the f-sport models, cutting holes in the intake won't do much at this point.

a sound tube going into the cabin? are you referring to the sound generator? that... does not go into the cabin.

here's a youtube video of how it works

Never really got why people would spend money on F-Sport or Joe Zintakes and make it more quiet without the generator! I just did the F-Sport drop in filter.

What I don't get is how everyone thinks stuff will get in your engine when there's TWO filters for it to pass which I highly doubt it will LOL

yeah, you're preaching to the choir.

the 3IS has a primary (replaceable) air filter that you drop in, and then it has a non-replaceable carbon filter (part of the ULEV II certification) to prevent emissions from coming out of the intake when the vehicle is off.
