Default Little help with scratch issue

Hi guys. My 2015 lexus is ultra white has a deep scratch on the driver side door. Paint isnt chipped. I was thinking of using a clear coat to fill in the scratch to keep dust from being stuck in there.

Is there any recommendation how to keep the dust out of the scratched area?

Is it down past the base coat...down to metal? If it isn't then you can probably fix it using some aggressive cutting compound. I usually approach a scratch with Meiguiars 105 and then Meiguiars 205. You can do it by hand or use a random orbital polisher. If it's down to the metal then get some touch up paint and maybe clear pray for the best result.

i got a scratch on my passenger door too!! i parked at an open area and some how someone park next to me and i come out to see my door with a ding. i was **** and its chip the paint. only option is to repaint it but i feel like its very unnecessary to fix a small area of dmg.

Pics are always useful. Kind of hard dispensing advice otherwise.

i would love my post a photo of the scratch but its not showing up because

1. my car is white
2. its probably the opti-coat plus and factory clear coat thats been scratched. I dont think base paint has been touched.

I bought meguiar mt 300 polishing machine to try to buff out the scratch. never used a polishing tool before but hope i dont mess up the base paint.

You probably don't need a polishing machine. A mircofiber wax applicator and hand power should be good. Use meiguiar 105 first and then 205. Sometimes I have even done a LIGHT sanding with some 2000 grit sandpaper and then followed it up with 105 and then 205. 105 takes away all sanding marks from the 2000 grit paper. This will bend the scratch and should not be noticeable at all. I have a porter cable random orbital polisher...can't remember the model...it's about 100 dollars but it's suppose to be very good. Find some you tube some videos of scratch removal using the compounds I suggested and use of a polisher if you choose to go that route. Random orbital polisher are safe to use without experience....it's the strictly rotary polishers that can be tricky. Search you tube it will tell you all you need to know....a clear coat scratch is nothing and can be easily fixed with the methods I have given you.

@Barnesie

Thank you for the advice. Will I need to apply clear coat again since 105 cuts the clear coat? Or will 205 help with giving that protection and shine
what brand of clear coat is recommended for lexus is?

No you will not need to apply clear coat again. The 105 from my understanding basically blends the surrounding clear coat into the scratch....effectively filling that area. Then you follow it up with the the 205 and then a coat of wax on the area. This is how I have approached all clear coat scratches and they basically become invisible. Give it a shot by hand first with the 105 and then 205. Again, no clear coat will be necessary.
