Did I do this? Steering Wheel Leather

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...9ba80709fa.jpg
My car has about 2000 miles on it. I'm the only one that drives it. Yesterday I noticed this on the steering wheel right at the 10:00 position so you feel it constantly.

My question is, did I do this? I have no idea how this could have happened.
I don't wear any jewelry. My nails are trimmed short as always. The only thing I can think of is my sun visor dragging across the wheel but even that is plastic and cloth.

Is this a defect or is it something I did somehow? Is there any good way to repair it or at least make the leather stay down and be smooth again?

Looks like something inadvertently scraped the steering wheel to me. With the vehicle being so new, you can always cop a plea with the dealership under warranty. You never know until you ask.

happened to me on my old 2IS, it will smooth out and you won't feel it anymore after a while

Clearly Wolverine tried to jack your Lexus but was unsuccessful. I'd say file a police report.

Same sort of thing on my previous car. When I get in and out of my car my right hip will sometimes touch the wheel. Sometimes I have a pocket knife on me and it scratched up the wheel.... just a thought.

I have seen many steering wheels damaged in this exact manner, including a couple of 3IS cars already. I know you state you nails are trimmed and I am sure that is true, but I have seen very well manicured people leave this exact type of mark on a nice leather wheel.

I have also seen keys, coffee cups, purses, cardboard boxes, umbrellas, and even sun shades leave marks on the relatively soft leather of a steering wheel that very much like the marks you have pictured.

Alright, thanks guys.
Anyone know about how much a replacement wheel is? Hopefully I can learn to live with it, but it's nice to know the replacement cost.

NOT cheap. Between $700-$1000.

I like perfection on my vehicles and know exactly how you are feeling. Try taking just a small amount of Lexol or Aerospace 303 to that portion of the wheel only (obviously not enough to make the wheel slippery). Some of the impact of the marks will be minimized, and let you sleep better.

The results will obviously be dependent on the depth of the abrasion, but it will certainly help.

Same issue on mine... =[, but mine is much smaller. Over time it does smooth out and you don't feel it anymore.

Are you wearing a ring?

Jlin89 09-06-15 11:44 AM

I scratched my steering wheel and it looked the same, went away with time, cant even tell it even happened

Seat belt buckle when steering wheel turned to the left

PAPI007 09-06-15 12:18 PM

I did this same thing to the bottom of my steering wheel with the seat belt. I took it in to the dealer and they replaced it for free because they said "I was a valued customer".
