^^^^^^

It's these guys, http://www.yelp.com/biz/schiros-coll...orth-hollywood. I think I'll be okay. The owner is a great guy. They'll make it right.

^^^ Thanks for the update. Pricier than I expected but if they are reputable and you're comfortable, that's what counts.

True story. I dropped my bike against the side of my Lexus -- rear door. Small 3" dent and a scuff mark which I tried to cover with touch up paint. I made it worse. I called or emailed just about everyone in the Valley. Only a few responded but none would do just that one spot. They all wanted to paint the whole door. Average estimate was $900.

Out of the blue Frank Schiro called and left the nicest message. We spoke. He said judging from the pictures that he might be able to fix the door simply -- without charge. I swung by. He fixed the door in 20 minutes. Wouldn't take a penny. Wouldn't even let me give his guys anything.

Not trying to be rude, but would you say he has proven himself trustworthy? It could be he's a cunning businessman who used the reciprocity rule on me. Guess we'll see. It seems body work is more expensive than any of us would think.

I don't think $1K is out of line for that repair. I would guess the owner of that shop did you a favor so you might be inclined to send him referral business and not so he could overcharge your for a later repair. I really don't think he is overcharging you. That is very fixable, but skilled labor is involved in the body and paint work. Quality work is not cheap.

Thank you. I appreciate everyones opinion and feedback but it did feel good to read your post. This shop does all the work for a dealership so I suspect that's because they do high quality work. I'll post pics in a couple of weeks -- we'll see what we end up with.

Thanks. Could be true. It's going in on the 9th. I have a week to decide. A new one would cost about $600 + painting + installation. They say they can pop it out. That there are no creases. Don't see where bondoing is needed. Do you think the company that one of the largest dealerships in LA sends all body work to would do a "bondo" job?

New, http://parts.lexusofcherryhill.com/p...440153321.html

Used $699, http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-LEXUS-IS2.../291527512975?

I am glad it felt good to read the post and I'm sorry to read about the damage to your car. Skilled bodyshop guys don't just fill everything with bondo these days. I have seen some pretty incredible work done with no bondo. The tools, technology, and skills are all pretty damn good now. I do hope it is repaired to your satisfaction.

Thank you. My detail guy looked it over and said he'd have it fixed rather than replace the hood. I had a brand new Acura and someone threw a brick from an over pass on the hood. The hood was fixed perfectly but they had to repaint the whole hood. They couldn't get the hood to match. I owned that car 5 years with a hood that was 1/2 a shade darker than the rest of the car. I wary of buying and painting a lid because of this.
