Anyone know the maximum tire pressure when cold for our vehicles - without damaging our tires?

I have a 2014 IS 350 AWD F Sport with 18” wheels, one wheel of which has a leak and I wonder what’s the most I can fill up same up with.

Look at the tire itself. My tires usually increase 2-4 psi just with casual driving. So find the max psi rating and subtract maybe 2-4 psi.

 

^ agreed. air expands and contracts to due temp, which is why nitrogen is used at some shops (like costco) as they are less prone to such fluctuation.

i would take care of that leak! most america's tire will patch a tire (if patchable) for free! if found not patchable, then either ask to put your spare on, or are forced to buy a tire from them.

 

Still fluctuates or my meter sucks!

I'd like to know the maximum pressure I can fill our tires to without damage.

I'm overinflating knowing there's a leak, so I can fill once a day instead of twice.

Been through hell; not as simple as a patch; not the tire, but the rim; don't ask.

So, for example, is 48 p.s.i. when cold too much?

Not asking for specs on door jamb.

I think he's telling you to look at your tire, not the door, and subtract from the max psi listed on the tire itself. Mine says max psi 51.

 

Different brand tires have different rating. Bridgestone Turanza that came with car max PSI is at 51. Then subtract about 4 psi for giving some room when tires get hot.

 

The maximum COLD psi is 51....not maximum when hot!! You can inflate to 51 psi (at least the tires I have) when cold. Check your specific brand for max.

That said, over-inflating a tire will wear out the center. Under-inflating wears the edges. If you run the recommended door pressure of 36 on a tire rated for a max of 51, you will buzz the edges right off and/or have uneven tire wear.

I always over-inflate what is recommended by the manufacturer. They are finding a balance between ride and handling. By over-inflating, you give up a little on ride quality, but you gain in handling, fuel economy and tire longevity.

All that said, I just got the car (IS350 AWD F-Sport) and have started at 42 psi. I have a feeling I will be bumping up to 44 but wanted to monitor for a bit and check wear. If you start seeing excess wear in the center (using a gauge), you need to decrease pressure. If you see more wear on the edges, increase.

Anyway, just my $.02
