Hey guys, looking for some opinions. I'm planning to buy a IS250 and am deciding between a CPO 2nd gen vs a non CPO 2014 model.


2nd Gen ('12/'13) CPO
-Peace of mind of longer warranty coverage, although if I'm understanding the CPO warranty coverage correctly it's a flat 3 years/100k miles from time of purchase, I don't get the remaining balance of any factory warranty correct?
-Roughly $4-5k cheaper

'14 Non CPO
-Complete redesign, but first year of the new generation, any bugs/issues?
-Slightly less warranty coverage, the ones I've seen had around 2-2.5 years remaining.

Would appreciate any thoughts you have on this.

I would go with the '14 as there's a drastic difference interior and exterior design wise. Reliability isn't a big issue at all with these cars it seems. I'm not planning on getting the extended warranty right now but you could always check out the price of the warranty to add.
As for bugs, they are very slight and minor. I've had my car for almost a year and the biggest gripe of mine is the seemingly retarded Bluetooth system.. Always hearing 'pardon' has pissed me off completely
Basically you may/may not use the extended warranty on the '13.. But you will know the difference between the new gen each day when you (and everyone else) look at or get in the '14

get the 2014. it should still have original factory warranty anyways

You can't go wrong either way. I got an amazing deal on a 2013 CPO as it had sat at the dealership for over 60 days and they had marked it down $5,000. But had I found a good deal on a 2014 in the color I wanted I would not have hesitated buying one.

It seems like the only common major issue the 2nd gen has is the carbon build up. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the 3rd gen uses the same engine? So the '14 IS250 would also have the carbon build up issue?

I believe it does not affect 2011 and newer models (according to Lexus). However I got a 350 to avoid the problem altogether.
