I took mines in for the 5,000 miles checkup a few months ago. They quoted me a 2 hour wait for the checkup but after 40 minutes, they were done. I have a dashcam installed so I went back and watched the video. I basically saw them pull the car into the service lot, parked it, then after a few minutes, pull it out and into the service area, then into the car wash. Of course I couldn't tell if they checked under the hood correctly but they definitely didn't take my car out for a spin on the open road as I thought they would.

Regardless, the invoice didn't show them replacing anything (fluids, oil, etc.). I'm now due for a 10,000 mile checkup in February. I'm curious what should I expect them to do this time around? I'm debating if I should even go back to the same dealership (Cerritos) or try another one.

I'm still far from 5k service, but I was told that it's mostly only visual checks.

Yes - per the owners manual the 5k is just an inspection. The 10k is an oil change.

I only did the 5K because I leased the car and they told me it's required. No other dealer would be likely to do any more than the dealer who performed your 5K service did.

And please don't forget to make sure at 10K mile service a dealer replace the cabin air filter. Some dealers don't do it.

Visual inspection as in what? Would having an aftermarket intake be an issue?

I agree with the above statement. Kind of a waist of time IMO for the 5k visit.

5K is pretty much worthless unless you want to change your oil. I had my wife's oil changed at 1500, then I"ll have it done again at 5000 to get her onto a 5000 interval. (No, i'm not going to start another oil change philosophy debate...) 10k is also equally useless in my opinion. Get your oil changed by the dealer if you want, and then buy a cabin air filter and change it yourself for cheap. Other than that, theres nothing else that should need to be done on your car at this point.

At 5k they check brakes hoses belts suspension tire pressure. No rotation no oil change. I paid extra and had my oil changed. At 10k oil change and same inspections but all free.

Is it wise to change the oil at 5k if it's not recommend? I'm sure if it was necessary it would be part of the 5k service, no?

The way i see it doesnt hurt to change it every 5k. Few extra bucks for peace of mind.

Agreed it doesn't hurt to change oil more frequently than recommended. Necessary? Nope.

Also @ 5k don't forget to inquire about programming the car to your liking. There's some dealer only programmable settings like holding down the unlock on the key fob to roll down all windows and sunroof, disabling the seat belt dinging noise, and many others.

I opted out of the 6 months service even though it's free. All they do is check the fluids. I did it myself and saved the trip to the dealer and the possibility of them scratching up my car. I'll go in for the 12 month and have them change the oil but I will not allow them to wash it. I prefer to do that myself using the methods, tools and chemicals that I prefer.

Nope, unfortunately Lexus considers it some sort of a safety feature. Can only roll down windows with key fob.
