Default Shark Fin Cap Removal

Looking to just take off the cap to have wrapped in vinyl. Is there a way to get the cap only without having to remove the light fixture? I was also going to take it off early and try the plasti dip with glossifier to see if i can match the gloss black vinyl on the roof to avoid seams on the shark fin.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't want seams on my antenna as well. I ended up ordering a painted shark fin cover from Sewell. With the ClubLexus member discount, it was only $29.75 plus shipping. I ordered the Obsidian Black option. Obsidian is just straight gloss black.

As for removal. That is a bit involved. I had to remove both interior C-pillar trims, the rear grab handles, and the rear dome light assembly. Once i got all that out, i squeezed my hand up into the headliner from the backside (between back window and headliner). Then through the opening where the rear dome light mounts, you can see what you are doing through it. I can't remember the exact size of the bolt holding the antenna on. I think it was a 10mm. Get that bolt off, unplug the connector and the antennas lifts right off the roof. Once off, you'll see that the painted part just clips onto the actual antenna module. Then just repeat everything in reverse to reinstall.

The antenna removal took me longer than actually wrapping the entire roof. Hope this helps out.

*Note: the new antenna cover i ordered from Sewell came with a new bolt, retaining clip, and outer gasket.

The guy at the dealership said the cap will just pop off using a prying tool. When i go pick up the part i am going to ask them to show me since i haven't seen anyone on here state that they could do that. Sewell charges 10 bucks to ship the part so i called another local dealer here in dallas. I got the price at pick up to be exactly the same as what sewell was sending it shipped. The dealer said he was only making 3 bucks off of the part at 41.99. Either way, if i dont have to have seams from the wrap it is well worth the 40 bucks.

Just had the roof wrapped and installed the black obsidian antenna to match the gloss black vinyl. You cant just pop off the cap, or access it by popping off the rear light. My installer had to pull the headliner back to get to it.

So for those who wrapped your roof in black, do you noticed a temperature increase? And how hot does that vinyl get?

Can you please provide more info on what exactly is required to remove the antenna ?

Guys on the forums are saying to remove rear pillar covers and part of the roof lining which I don't feel comfortable doing on a new car.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I popped out the dome light but I couldn't access the shark fin bolt. Need to take out the pillars and pull down the head liner. I didn't do it because I chickened out when I was pulling the pillars and it was making bend marks. No bueno.

When you popped out the rear dome light housing, could you even see the bolt ?

Not that I remember. there was a metal casing covering most of the dome.

Finally got my roof wrapped and tints done.

The antenna did not have to be removed. There is enough play with the shark fin for the vinyl to slide underneath.

Really happy with the finished product. Sorry for the bad quality photos, it was a crappy day in Sydney.
