Windshield are easy to crack so your tint will be a loss when it cracks. For some reason 3IS windshields are very fragile. Mine cracked after 3 yrs.

Sorry to steal your thread.

But, I have a quick question about window tinting..

So, my co-worker got his BMW 5 series tinted (all 5 windows, except windshield). After the job, I saw that the film wasn't "smoothly" applied. It looks like there were air bubbles or water streaks still under the tint.

The guy who did it, says it was normal and should go away in a couple days after the film cures.

Is this a normal thing that happens when tinting?

I'm bout to get it done by the same guy for $200. I live in CA, so is 35% all around good and legal?

Air bubbles and water streaks are definitely not normal in my experience. Give the tint a few days and see if they disappear. If they haven't disappeared, take it back and tell the shop to fix it. OP is also from CT so their tinting laws are different from ours. 35% is not legal on your front windows, but hopefully cops don't write you up for it.

If you're in the Los Angeles area I can give you a name of the shop that I've been going to for 18 years and I have never had a lot of bubbles I've had a few minor ones but very few bubbles at all if it's done right. Place I go to does all the dealers up-and-down the auto row out here in the valley, San Fernando Valley that is. So if you're in LA I can give you name of the place I go to which is in Sherman Oaks I and I highly recommend them. I think they've been in business for over 30 years in the same location

I'm from NorCal, so yeah thanks tho..

then what is the legal tint % for the front? Co-worker said 35% is no problem.

And... Air bubbles and water streaks are definitely not a normal thing? I'll check my co-workers car tomorrow and see if they are still there. If so, I'll probably not get it done by that guy.

I just got mine done last week by a guy in the sf Bay Area for $250 with great results. no streaking/bubbling from the get go. if I remember correctly, CA prohibits any tinting of front windows and windshield. however, most cops won't care, but you still run into that chance of somebody who will and I've known friends who have gotten tickets for 35%. with that said, I have 20% on rear and 35% around and loving it! worth the risk imo

The look of a bit of water between the tint and window is normal for a day or two but not air in my experience.

not sure if your near sac, but i had mine done by JH AUTO tinting, they did a really nice job, went with the 3M.
it was around 320 for the 5 windows, went 35% in the front and 20% in the rear. no problems with the boys in blue yet...

Technically, you cant have any tint on the front windows. I spoke to CHP officer a little over a year ago regarding front window tints, he told me if they can see your face through the tint, then they wont stop you.

I had my 3IS tinted in San Jose. 35%F--5%R and i love it!! especially in the summer!!!!
