Default Windshield Wipers Question

Hey All,

I'll start off by saying that I have a 2014 IS 250 AWD and there's something that's been driving me crazy and have not had a good answer to yet... This is what happens:

When I activate the wind shield spray, the wipers don't automatically wipe the sprayed liquid UNLESS I hold it down UNTIL it starts wiping automatically. Is it designed to do this? In any case, it seems like a dangerous design decision if that's the case. I have had times where I pressed the spray lever thinking (like all other vehicles I have driven before) that the wipers will automatically wipe the liquid after I release it, but it doesn't, leaving me essentially blind for a split second until i manually wipe it. Hopefully my explanation makes sense and thanks in advance for everyone's input.

You do have to hold it for a couple seconds before the wipers start. I would assume that this is to ensure the windshield is wet with washer fluid prior to wiper operation. If the wipers swipe on a dry and dirty windshield, they'll scratch the glass.

You have to hold it longer. It's better designed actually just like the other guy said.
Sometimes fluid doesn't want to come out because the holes are plugged from dirt.
