Default IS350 F Sport AWD vs RWD

My local Lexus dealer does not have any IS F Sport to test drive. Has anyone driven both of these and is there big difference in the way they drive and perform? Is the 8 speed transmission in RWD much better than the 6 speed in AWD? Why didn't Lexus put 8 speed in both?

8-speed RWD is taken directly from the ISF and is quicker shifting. It's about 0.2 seconds 0-60 mph quicker than the AWD model, but that can also be attributable to extra 150 lbs of the AWD. AWD also consumes about 5% more on gas if that matters. In the real-world, not much different in every-day driving.

Also on why no 8-speed in the AWD. My guess is cost savings on R&D. They simply ported over the previous gen tranny/AWD/powertrain.

Lexus is being cheap, they already have a 8-speed AWD system on the RX350 Fsport or LS
