Default Scratches under the front bumper overhang

I knew going in this would be a problem. In a place like LA it's nearly impossible to avoid steep inclines in driveways and other entrances. I found a few this morning. My temporary solution to prevent more is to put gray duct tape all along the bottom front lip -- discreetly. Don't know if this will help but should add some protection.

The white gaffer tape would be a better choice.

How are you going to tape it under? Take off the bumper or put your car on a jack? I was going to do this but then it's just under side and it will get scratched one way or the other.

I just crawled underneath and taped the front of the lip so that it can't be seen unless one crawls under the front bumper. I don't know if it'll help much but I'll find out because as you pointed out -- with such a low overhang it's going to be next to impossible to avoid. My hope is the tape absorbs the lighter scratches.

With a few people onboard, car was lower, and I scratched the underside of the front bumper of my CT entering a driveway, only 1 week after I got it. The grinding sound made my heart sink but I got over it a few days later since you don't even see any damage unless you jack up the car and look under.

I know the feeling. I've owned so many new cars -- one would think I'd get used to it but there's something about me that feels bruised when my new car starts showing life's wear and tear. After about the 1st year I stop caring. I just ordered some touch up paint.

Gaffer tape is pretty tough so if should help if your bumper just touch the ground lightly. I thought your car is white that why I suggest white gaffer tape. But Iike other said, why bother if you can't see it.

Yeah we all have the same feeling but we will get over the new car phase after a few years.

Wish I was as sensible as you. Of course you're right -- but I still go through a bit of a grieving process.

OMG, the same thing happened to me with my CT a month after I got it. I was so upset and it bugged the crap out of me. I use to be so **** about scratches and dings but it's a losing battle especially here in SoCal. Trying to park far and being careful will only go so far. Better to just not worry about it and if it happens it happens.

Gaffer tape...a photographer's best friend. So many uses for this stuff. I live in NYC. I work in construction so the places I visit on my daily commute are not car-friendly. Rocks, debris, nails, etc..

My cars have always taken a beaten. Some times they took a beating from me. Most of the time, they just took a beating from life in this city.

Personally, I know it hurts but wouldn't sweat it much.

I always cringe when walking in businesses and see cars "dry docked" on curbs when parked. I know we are obviously a minority here, but it's the whole I know it's there part that frustrates and I love a smooth body, top and bottom.

LA is killing the underside of my car. Three days ago -- multiple plastic 1/2 gallon containers -- can't swerve too much traffic. Clunk. Clunk. At least 2 go bouncing under my car . Yesterday -- unidentified piece of wood -- panel or something. Kaboom -- under the car. Just looked at the black plastic is ripped. My wife tells me what you resist persists.

Good news is that all of it will be simple to repair including the scratches in the paint. It always happens like this when I buy a new car -- early damage and then nothing for months.

I had to vent.
