Atomic silver is such a classy color but no do in Fsport. So I settled for Nebula Grey which looks great too -- and -- it doesn't show dirt.

Ok, it definitely sounds like you got yourself a lemon. I'd never seen maintenance issues this severe being reported out of a 2013 A5 before.

I take back what I said before--I just didn't get enough information from you to understand what the situation was, which is why I started asking for more information.
I've owned Lexus vehicles since 2006. Except or the occasional recall I've only been to the shop for scheduled maintenance and tire replacement. No repairs needed which is why I'm a loyal Lexus owner.

I've heard too many horror stories from Audi, BMW and Mercedes owners.

The Atomic Silver is such a great color! Congrats!

Re: your A5, I was wondering if you got a lemon but you did mention they switched to electronic steering for 2013 which caused most of the problems. Prior to my GS I owned an '09 A5 S-Line, a '10 S5 Cab and an '11 S5 Cab. Granted, I only put 10,000 miles on each but I never had one single issue with any of the 3 cars. And the '10 Cab was the first year for that model.

Anyway, I needed more room so traded for the GS350. I'm also glad to be back in the Lexus family, but those Audis are SEXY.

What a bizarre comment!

I had a Volvo S80 for *four years* before anything at all went wrong with it.

A premium car simply should not be in for repairs every few months!

Audis are fine cars and my wife is on her second with minimal bother. But I can well see why you'd get fed up with them after all that!

You've made a great choice with the new IS, which for my money looks just as good as the A5 anyway (and I'm an A5 fan). All the greys look fantastic (I say that even though mine's black!), so health to enjoy!

Err, that's definitely not whining. Repairs shouldn't be a normal part of prestige car ownership. Yes you'd expect it if you owned an entry level vehicle, but not something supposedly from a premium brand. If you believe otherwise, it just means the brand's PR department has pulled a successful con job. My 7 year old IS350 hasn't needed any sort of repair work other than standard maintenance. Similarly, my 3 year old RX450h is the same. However, my sister's 3 series has been in for repairs twice and even worse, my sister in law's A5 was in the shop 5 times in the last 18 months. She finally gave up and changed to another car.

We've had Mercs, BMWs and Audi's in our family for more than 30 years, and German cars definitely are in a shop a lot more than the Japanese cars we've owned. Mercs used to be pretty decent (our E300 was a tank that just kept going and going) but overall, I find most German cars are more trouble than they're worth unless you lease and continually change within the lease period.

No, Lamborghini are technically owned by VW, as Audi is a subsidiary of VW.

Thanks for all the support guys. Loved the A5 when it wasn't in the shop but it was there all too frequently. Plus the dealership was a little on the pompous side, especially towards the end. They kind of had this attitude like this was normal stuff for an Audi which was concerning. Glad to be back in a Lexus for sure!!

Congratulations on your IS. Every car can have their problems at the end of the day there is still a margin of error. VW owns several brands including Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti, and I'm sure i'm missing a few.

I also owned an Audi back in '02, and my service manager said "The Germans invent it and the Japanese perfect it". I know we would all like something that has been perfected, and that's what Lexus is good at! Congratulations on making a great decision.
