Default What are the dealer add ons to avoid?

I'm going to the dealership tomorrow on purchasing a 3IS. I was wondering what are the add ons that they are gonna offer to avoid. Are there any that are worth getting? Like car care which I read on here is a rip off, rust protection, etc. It's been about 13 years since I've bought a car, so I don't know what they offer nowadays.

I would honestly avoid everything except perhaps GAP insurance if you are financing (or especially leasing and it's not already included), and you don't put much money down. It will cover the difference between your loan and the value of the car if its ever totaled. But if you put very much money down, you prob won't need it. Everything else is a huge waste of money. Don't fall for their traps...they'll try to talk you into all kinds of paint protection, etc. they'll explain how much it costs to fix a computer in the car if it fails outside of warranty period. Trust me, just hold your ground and say no thanks, good luck!

Awesome choice!!!! I love the color combination I have the same car, but obsidian/Rioja and I absolutely love it!! I hope everything goes well for you! Buying a car should be a fun experience!

Yeah, certainly stay away from all that paint/interior protection crap. I got suckered into buying it when I bought my 2IS, never again. In fact, now I decline everything they try to sell me. I love the scare tactics they use when you say no. "initial here here and here acknowledging you're declining [insert service here]"

I definitely agree with the other posters on the paint/interior protection. It's expensive, does absolutely no good whatsoever, and on top of that it smells horrible and turns the inside of your car into a greasy slippery surface. It's a shame to ruin a beautiful new car with this junk. I've had the benefit of learning through other people's mishaps on this, and I've seen in person how bad it really is.
