Inevitable, especially since competitors have been downsizing engine in favor of forced induction.
If they can build the turbo engine with little to no lag, handling will significantly be increased. (I-4 Turbo may weigh less than 3.5L V6). Refining the I-4 Turbo to be smooth, quiet & reliable, to replace the V-6, may be a challenge.

Turbo 4 for the IS isn't a bad idea. The 4GR-FSE V6 is great...the power of a V6 with the efficiency of a 4cyl, but it is a very high compression motor which lacks the extra oomph people expect out of a sport sedan. Despite the fact that the IS 300 had a fuel thirsty 2JZ-GE 3.0L I6, the power was adequate for the chassis. Maybe we'll finally see a IS 300t?

It would of been nice for the IS300 to have had the option to come turbo from the factory just how the Supra did with the gte and ge.

They've already hinted it's coming to Toyota (Camry facelift), so to share with Lexus is very likely. Once they switch out the 2.5 V6, they'll have my interest. That's a decent motor, but the world has moved on with power and fuel economy. The 3IS should have come out of the gate with a new base engine to really have made an impact. With that, I believe it could have been a car of the year contender.

I am not a fan of SMALL turbocharged engines... unrefined, non-liner throttle response, noisy, and laggy... real world MPG is usually much worse tham EPA estimates because the engine is always in boost (small motor is horribly weak when not on boost).

Can't beat N/A ... no replacement for displacement

Yeah, 2.0T
I will say V6 Turbo later, 3.0-3.5L.

I wouldn't get too attached to that, theres a war between the EPA and displacement, and the EPA is dominating.

Remember, they don't so much care about real world MPG, as EPA MPG as pertains to the CAFE standards.

The IS and maybe even the GS WILL have 4cyl engines within the next 5 years, mark my words. Look at the 3 Series and 5 Series as an example.
