When I was searching for my IS back in December of 2021 it was nearly impossible to find one coming in that was optioned with ML. And I couldn't sit around waiting for one since my previous car got totaled and I needed a vehicle.

I have an aftermarket sub and feel like the ML wouldn't be what I am looking for

I have the ml system in my es 350 . While it is an improvement it still sucks. True I did spend more than the cost of the ml system. Definitely you get what you pay for and it's something that I don't mind paying for because I enjoy. To be honest my system cost over 10k with Install. Only thing that bothers me is the time it takes for custom work.

So I decided to re-tackle this job since the first time didn't work out.
I bought a different model tweeter which is a tad bigger at 7/8" and already came with the bass blocker already pre-installed.
Also got both Lexus door handle pieces with the hole provisions as well. Just waiting on my Metra harness and then have to buy some small metal brackets to see how i will mount the tweeter onto the hole. Might have to trim/cut the hole out a bit bigger.

I am about to do the same job, but haven't had time to take off the panel. Just wondering if the tabs below hold onto anything on the door as I will most likely have to cut all that for my tweeters

I think they only hold on to the oem grille that normally covers the hole.

Not as clean as the guy above but it's where I'm at right now. Drilled out the bottom "step" and now l just have to make a bracket that will hold the tweeter from the back.

Lookin good, def let me know how it sounds. Assuming that you are keeping it stock? I decided to go with an aftermarket amp and will be replacing all the speakers. I'll update here as soon as I have everything installed

Yes i plan to keep my oem amp and all, just wanted to bring some more sound to the rear.

After looking at yours and 1slowes250's install, makes me want to start over again and have never removed the step. Looks cleaner on how your tweeters sit inside. What size tweeter did you use ? Have pics to see what it looks like from the back ?

I just wondering would t just a tweeters help to bring out the clearity sound with just a stock rear speakers? I have JBL rear speaker installed, it's get a little better but sound still not loud enough, it might need the aftermarket amp to get a full sound quality out of it, last night I tried just to install the new pioneer tweeter, the sound of that new tweeter still not clear compare to the Jbl one, my guess we need the whole new amp to get a better sound provide than a stock amp?

I had to remove about 95% of the area to make the tweeters fit flush. Also, my tweeter came with a twist lock piece to hold the tweeter against the remaining step on door handle.I will upload a pic later on tonight. For the tweeters, I used 1 inch tweeter from the Kicker 47KSS6704

Here are the pics of the rear

I would definitely recommend an aftermarket amp to get the full quality experience from aftermarket speakers

finally got to installing everything, had some more kicker stuff lying around at home so decided to use it all

Speakers
Kicker 47KSS6504 6.5 component front
Kicker 47KSS6704 6.75 component rear
Pioneer TS-A301D4 (2 12 inch)

Amps
Kicker KXA400.4 for 4 way
Kicker KXA1600.1 for 2 subs

Lineout LC6i

Got the car back from the shop and the system just isn't loud enough and the fader/balance is all messed up. Can't really set the gains too high on the LOC and the kicker amps have a clip light and can't set that high either. They also left the middle dash speaker installed (which I took out myself) as it was overpowering all of the aftermarket speakers. Not sure if I am missing something, but honestly the stock speakers sounded way better/louder with the aftermarket subs than what I have now. Also, not an expert on car audio, but looking at the LOC, it doesn't look like it wired right to me. Any feedback would be appreciated
