Tranmsission Shot? (Won't Shift 4th+)
 

Hi Guys,

I had a check engine light and Lexus told me I basically needed a new transmission. I drove the car for a while after, as they said the transmission is worth as much as the car. It now won't shift into 4th. Is the car toast?

No it's not shot. It may be as simple as a solenoid that needs to be replaced or it could be needing a whole new transmission. if you don't know how to do it yourself then you're definitely looking at a decent amount of money to get it fixed but if you can do it yourself it's doable.

Just don't make the assumption that that a code for solenoid (other than open, shorted) will fix it. The solenoids issue commands, the input/output sensors verify the action occurred. Just because the action didn't happen, doesn't mean a solenoid is responsible. It means it needs tested, verified to work or not work.
