just purchased a 09 is 250, finding little problems here and there, mostly now with the sunroof. when i try to open it, it makes a weird sound and gets stucknot even half way, at first i was able to finagle it and push it foward closed, then when i got home i tried to open it again and the same thing it kind of seems like one side moves a bit farther then the other, but this time i could not get it to close all the way, its still slightly open towards the back.
I have had cars that when that happens they have like a screw, or a mechanism that you can close it manually in situations like this, does the is250 have that?
I know what you're saying. On my older cars I could remove the interior light cover and with the Allen/hex key was able to manually close or open the sunroof.
If you are able to remove the lights cover, try to turn the dial by hand (wearing glove might help in that case). Also check for any debris stuck or jammed in the roof track.
Did you have your battery recently disconnected? Have you tried to reset it by holding the button(s) UP for 30 sec?
so the way to do the reset on the 09 and up is by holding the "UP" button? there is no up, its just slide/close and tilt/down........???
and i CAN manually close the sunroof, i just needs to dissemble the whole control panel thing and rotate the wheel attached to the motor? or do i need to take the piece from another part like the guy in the video?? im a little confused here.
Looks like you need to re-initiate the sunroof. Try to push and hold SLIDE button, then do the same with TILT. Hold it for few seconds after it Slides or Tilts up.
i just tried that, when i keep any ot those button held i just here a sound from the controls like a wheel is turning but nothing is happening, im assuming the thing that turns is broken, or the teeth have worn out, so am i correct in that i have to disassemble the controls to get underneath? and when i do that do i have to find another wheel thing to get it to manually close the sunroof? or is there another way to manually close it?
Remove the cover and see if nothing inside is broken. It might be the problem with the motor itself or the overhead dome light switch.
To manually close the roof you can gently use pliers and an old towel. Be careful not to strip the plastic teeth.
Can you post a video of what happens when you push the button(s)?
Edit: My son had the same problem with his sunroof few months ago. We replaced the motor, but that didn't fix anything. We figured the dome light switch was the problem.
He bought some cheap a$$ replacement dome light switch on AliExpress but it only fixed the slide function. The Tilt still doesn't work, lol
I suspect his sunroof problem started soon after he upgraded to aftermarket blue interior light bulbs in the overhead dome light sunroof switch...as these bulbs were burning HOT when touched.

let me see if the video uploads, so when you say it can be done manuallu with pliers and a towel, do you mean the plastic wheel thing?
