Default Techstream erasing/clearing used key

I have techstream and I know the procedure to add a new key. It's fairly simple process where u start the procedure and within 30 seconds u tap original key to start button then move that key far away then tap the brand new blank key and it will beep and register. However, looking for some advice on adding a used key. From what I've figured and from reading people who were successful at using a used key is that you first have to erase the key but the erase procedure apparently erases all the registered keys. And apparently erasing takes about 16mins. Has anyone done this? I'm scared to attempt this because what happens if I erase all keys and the laptop loses connection or something or something goes wrong with the laptop or something. Am I then stuck with a car with no registered keys at all? I'm worried about completely locking myself out. If anyone has done this can you advise please. Thanks

there are some threads about this already.

Easiest way is to have the used key, virginized. That way the car sees it as a new key.

If you erase the car's registered keys, I think you need to order some security codes to program new keys. Search the forum, this was discussed about 7 or 8 years ago.

I thought only a dealer could add a 'used' key, To keep security levels up.

Not the case. Most dealers don't offer pairing a used key as it involves a completely clearing the immobilizer etc. Best option I found is to use specialists that offer a complete unlock of a used key and hence returning it to what they call a virgin state. The car will then see the key as a brand new key and it will pair assuming it's the correct key type.

Let me toss this out there in this thread: I have a 2008 IS350 which came to me with one and only one "key" fob. I also have a used 2015 Prius key fob. Can the Prius key fob be "cleared/cleaned/wiped so as to be a "blank" and then would it be able to be programmed to speak to my 2008?

Ok, so I have a few different variations of virginised cards but when techstream tells me to touch new key to start button, I don't hear a beep like I do when I touch the original key. I've put a brand new battery as I read you need a new battery. I've tried this with the all the cards. Does this mean the card isn't compatible? Our key fobs and cards don't have the fcid and things on them here so how do I know what fcid I need? Is there a way to test the frequency and stuff of my original key and see if it matches the smart card?

Yes it can be cleared with a special deivce. Depending on your chip code and fcid is the Prius key can work or not, probably not. Get a clean used IS key with the right code and board inbside the fob

Maybe you have the wrong key card or fob? Inside the key fob is a chip board that has the info. If you have the right machine you can test the radio frequency
