Default Thinking about getting the E85 tune

Hi guys.

I talked to a reputable tuner here in thailand. He said he had done multiple E85 tune on the 86 and BRZ with stock engine component. No fuel pump/injector upgrade and provide great result about 20WHP more than pump gas and the engine does not run lean.

i think he use 86/brz as an example cause they are DI engine

He is also saying that. It is possible to tune an E85 map on IS350 with stock fuel pump and injector and will have proper A/F ratio and should expect more than 20WHP when compare to the E20 map I am having.

We know that our Direct injector size is almost 1000cc and I can confirm it is the same injector that use in LS460 engine. The high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay is also the same but on the LS460 they have 2 of them.

I have easy access to E85 so that will not cost me any problem.

Only thing i am worry about is I dont think anyone ever done this on a 2gr fse engine before even RRracing tune i saw only goes up to E40 blend.

Do we know if they use stock injector for their supercharger kit with E40 blend? If that is the case it maybe possible that the is350 stock fuel system could provide sufficient flow rate for E85 tune which require about 30% more than pump gas

Currently my car got 317whp with E20 on the last dyno run if I could add 25whp more it would be awesome!

All comment appreciated

thanks!

I myself have not read of any members having a complete E80-E85 tune...yet. Will you have enough fuel flow to deliver that E through those DIs...that is the mystery question. What I would do would be to install an appropriately placed bung into the exhaust, install a quality WB O2 kit, and monitor your AFRs closely while tuning. No "tailpipe sniffers".

thanks for the reply

RR-racing confirm that the injector will supply sufficient fuel for the tune but they say it might not make more power than a E30 tune.

Where I live is very warm. During the day time its reach 100F easily. E85 might help it run cooler and smoother if not faster.

Anyway, my tunner say he would not charge me if I could not feel that the new tune is better.

You're right about it running cooler and it'll help "clean" the engine more. I used to have a boosted Honda Civic on E83-E85 and it also netted larger torque figures than a compatible 93 pump gas tune.

I thought it funny that you mentioned about being somewhere where it is very warm, but yet your location is "Minnesota". LOL! I know you're overseas, but I forget where.

I'd say get a E30 tune dialed in, and then try out a E85 tune and see what happens. I'd still install that wideband to avoid leaning out too much and avoid pre-ignition.
