Default 6MT noise again!

Hey guys. So my 2006 IS250 6MT had the clutch and transmission replaced by Lexus as per the TSB to get rid of the infamous rubbing noise on takeoff. It fixed the noise. But only 80,000km later and the throw out bearing went out. So my mechanic put in a Luk clutch kit and now the infamous rubbing noise is back! Any clues? Much appreciated.

What rubbing noise is this? I haven't experienced a rubbing noise but the 6mt is not that great of a transmission regardless.

Usually a any rubbing or grinding noise is cause by the throw out bearing itself being misaligned.

I do get a slight sound if you would call it rubbing, if I release the clutch incorrectly, sometimes while taking off on a slope. But I believe that is due to a misaligned throwout bearing.

If your throwout bearing is going out that may be what caused it in the beginning. Usually in a clutch kit it comes with a new throwout bearing and a aligning tool.

What are your symptoms of a throw out bearing going bad?

It's not the throw out bearing. There's a TSB for this issue well described here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ion-tsb-2.html

The TSB fix was to replace the transmission and clutch kit at the same time. Like i mentioned, it worked but then 80,000 km later i had to replace the clutch again and the noise is back.

The LuK kit would have come with the same type of clutch disc that the car originally came with. The TSB replaced the unsprung disc with a sprung disc. You will need to replace the clutch disc with the TSB type again.

The part number for the TSB clutch disc is 31250-33032. It is used in many older Toyota/Lexus models and I'm sure you could order an aftermarket one, but if you want to be sure to get the correct disc, I'd say just order it from Toyota or Lexus.

Throwout bearing noise issues are not too common on the RA62.

Thanks very much Jeff! I kinda suspected that was the problem. BTW, I grew up in Edmonton, but moved to Vancouver in '07.
Cheers!

No problem.

I'm from Calgary, up in Edmonton going to school, will likely leave afterwards, haha.
