You could drill and tap the oil pan and fix it for good.

Are you sure it's not the drain plug gasket that is bad (or missing)?

Go out to Amazon and grab a new oil pan and gasket...probably $50 total. The oil pan comes with the plug. You can drain the oil yourself or take it to an indy anyone familar with Lexus vehicles can replace it for you.

I would opt for time-sert product over heilcoil any day. Unfortunately it's a bit more expensive.

That said drill an tap to next oversize.

Search.... time-sert m8 metric. although im not sure what size the oem plug is...

I'm guessing you'll need to drop the sub-frame which means supporting the engine, disconnecting the rack and pinion, and lowering the subframe just a bit.

You'll want to measure the exact position of the subframe in an cross - X fashion as well as for and aft so you can put it back exactly where it came from or you'll have correct the caster, camber, and maybe the toe.

The job doesn't look that bad.
Get a small 1/4" drive speed handle and wobble socket, non-impact.

I may be mistaken but I doubt the oem pan used a gasket. Likely FIPG. Just don't use paper or corks as it will leak.

is this for the lower pan? i thought
the lower pan was much less involved than this. i was hoping to just remove 10 bolts and reattach a gasket, please clarify

I just did a search on Amazon...be sure and get the right one for your vehicle. Maybe pick up some gasket sealant while you're at it.

Yes, 80% are easily accessed but some are under the cross member. Just saying take a look and be prepared.

If you notice, it looks like the pan has 4 studs on it so to slide it sideways you have to lower the pan to clear the studs or remove them. The thing is the engine only needs to go up about an inch so one could undo the motor mounts, jack up the engine from the oil pan and block it, remove jack and do your work.

That would likely be my first choice if it won't come out as is.

PS - Toyota, Honda, and GM all make good FIPG. Use brake or MAF cleaner and scotch brite to clean the surfaces.
