Unhappy 2006 is250 park, drive, neutral all lit

My Lexus is acting strange. It will start every time in PARK, but sometimes the DRIVE light lights up with the PARK. Also, if i leave it sit for a while idling in PARK it will sometimes make a funny sound and then shut itself off.

In NEUTRAL it sometimes PARK, NEUTRAL and DRIVE are lit up.

It shuts itself off when I shift through NEUTRAL (for example going from park to D), but i can move it back into NEUTRAL.. it starts and then i can shift it back down into D and go. Works fine in D, but when I go to park shifting back through neutral it shuts itself off again.

Sounds like something is off on the park/neutral position switch.

Had the exact same issue few years back, while driving it just went crazy. It turned out the be a heavily corroded neutral position switch. The switch needed changing and so did the wiring connector.

Side of the trans is the first place I'd look. And corrosion is a probable suspect. Have a new switch handy and be careful as moving the lever out of park by accident could allow the car to roll and crush you.

The switch is easy to align w a small pin or dowel.
