Light Bulb/LED replacement Guide

I've just initiated my mission to comprehensively upgrade the lighting on the IS250, using LEDs where possible, for better form and function. Hopefully this documentation proves useful to other 2IS owners!

Mirror Puddle lights

1. Electrically move the mirror to it's furthest "up" position. You should have enough space to slide a finger in the gap.

2. Firmly (but somewhat gently) pull upward on the lower edge of the mirror to unclip the lower hooks (red). Then slide the mirror out of the upper hooks (blue).

3. Rest the mirror aside (be mindful of the cables) and undo the circled screws. I'd already removed the lower-left one prior to this photo.

4. Slide apart the two mirror halves by gently using a fingernail along the seam.

5. Replace the wedge type (T10) bulb! If using an LED, verify the polarity is correct, or the bulb may not illuminate.

6. Bonus step: Admire factory markings inside the housing, before clipping it back together.
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...9214f153c8.jpg

7. Reinsert the top hooks as pictured, then press down the entire mirror (with slightly more force on the lower half) to clip in the lower hooks.

8. Repeat for as many or few mirrors as desired.

9. Wait for nightfall (apologies to those in the Arctic circle) to appreciate the fruits of your labor! :woohoo:

Note 1: The mirror assembly can flex backwards slightly, which helps in the removal/installation of the screws.
Note 2: If using a Halogen bulb, wear gloves to avoid life-shortening oil deposits.

My bad for not taking photos of these processes, but it was cold and I was too excited to install the lights.

Door puddle lights

1. Using a fingernail or flathead screwdriver, gently pull down the front edge of the lens.

2. Remove the light assembly by pulling away from the wire harness. Unclip the harness,

3. Gently unclip the clear bulb cover to access the bulb.

4. Replace the bulb. If using LED, briefly reconnect the wire harness to verify correct polarity.

5, Reinstall the bulb cover.

6. Reconnect the wire harness and slide the rear of the assembly back into its slot.

7. Clip in the front edge, and you're done!

Note: You can also use this basic process to replace the entire assembly

Nice guide dude

Front dome lights

1. Open the Spectacle holder as usual. Use a small Flathead screwdriver to open the two flaps above it.

2. Use a Philips screwdriver to undo the screws below.

3. Use a prying tool (or delicately use a Flathead) to unclip the top of the entire light/sunroof/holder assembly.

4. Slide the assembly toward the back of the vehicle to release it.

5. Turn off the lights using the "On/Off" button. Unscrew (about 1/4 turn) and remove each individual bulb holder.

6. Replace and reinsert the bulbs. If using an LED, briefly switch on to check the polarity.

7. Slide the bottom of the assembly back into the headliner. Clip the top back in while you're at it.

8. Reinsert the screws and concealing flap.

9. Appreciate the beauty of your handiwork.

Front vanity lights

1. Insert a Flathead screwdriver between the left edge of the plastic and the headliner to release the clip.

2. Pull the assembly down, and slide left (away from the wire harness) to release it from the headliner.

3. Replace the bulb. Check polarity if LED (yes I said it again).

4. Reverse the above steps to reinstall.

Here's the result!

Rear Dome Light

1. Use a small Flathead driver in the circled slot to gently lift out the plastic bulb cover

2. Turn off dome light and replace bulbs

3. Admire!

Trunk Light

1. Use a suitable Flathead to depress the circled clip and lift out the light assembly
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...9da59e846e.png
2. I'd pull the fuse before replacing this one, because this bulb isn't quite as easy to reinstall smoothly.

3. Enjoy being able to actually see in your trunk at night

Nice guide OP. The scariest part of this DIY is def the mirror puddle lights. I can do all the interior lights but im just scared to crack the auto dim mirror.

Viru 03-13-18 09:26 AM

Thanks! Yeah I was definitely clenched when I first had to unclip/reclip the mirror glass, but the piece is surprisingly robust and I can't imagine it cracking with reasonable amounts of force. Totally worth it IMO, since the original puddle lights were weaker than fireflies.

Great write up. Now you need the gear selector, and ashtray light. I think the size is 74 bulb for both.

On that note, do you know an easy way to access either of those lights?

Any Idea how to change cluster lights?

The cluster lights are all soldered into the cluster board. To bad the pictures are no longer viewable on the thread below.

You'll have to remove the center console to access the bulbs.

Great write-up!

I wanted to replace the stock halogen trunk light with an LED bulb. The one I bought from PrecisionLED was too long to fit so I had to put the stock halogen one back in. :(

What is the length of the LED bulb you used for the trunk light? I believe this is the DE3022 bulb.

I see on VLEDS and iJDMtoy's websites that they sell DE3022 in 29mm instead of 31mm. Will 29mm work? The stock halogen one seems like it's even shorter like 26-27mm.

Go to ijdmtoy.com they have it listed for Toyota/Lexus special size. Trunk Bulbs.
