Default side mirror problem

Hello all.

I was changing out my puddle lights on my 2006 IS350. I got a little impatient with the mirrors and used a little too much force. Once I snapped the mirror back in place, I noticed part of the mirror had a blue tint on it. Did I break something inside my mirror? Please help!

The liquid or photoelectric gel inside the mirror is broken, typical when too much force is used to snap it back in place. Had the same thing happen on a 2nd gen RX then started to leak. Probably find a non auto darkening one cheaper than original if you aren't too concerned about it. It might be heated as well depending on the option for 06.
The liquid can stain the paint if it starts to leak.
Search the forum for similar issues on other Lexus vehicles.
Good luck, I'm sure others will have some thoughts as well.

Yup, I have the same issue on my 06 is350. It's how I purchased the car.
Luckily, Lexus sells the replacement mirror itself, without purchasing the whole mirror assembly

Other sites have it for less. Heck, maybe the dealer might be cheaper!

I wouldn't suggest the product in the video as the ambient temps will have it leaking and dripping out come summer time when the heat rises.
Use high temp grease or the absolute minimum amount needed to do the job.

I was so scared of doing the same thing to my mirrors when I installed my LED puddle lamps. But all went all. You might want to source a junkyard mirror to replace yours.

Or spend a few minutes searching ebay and find a cheap mirror to rob the glass from such as....

If you want to ensure you wont crack the glass when re-installing theres a very easy solution I've used many times..
The black plastic outer ring can be taken off rather easily, then the glass separates from the backing plate (held by some putty). Reinstall the backing plate which is what needs to force to pop back in, reposition the glass and secure it with the retention ring. No excessive force ever placed on the glass.

If you are not concerned with the auto-dimming, I've used burco replacements with good results. Very affordable and have heated and non heated options. Good luck.

Yup that's what I did when I broke the driver side mirror. After that, list the mirror back on eBay. You'll be surprise how much money you get back if you get the right buyer.
