Cheap fix for black spotted rear view mirror?
I just purchased a 2006 is250 and there are black lines all over the rear view mirror. After some research, this seams to be a common problem with Lexus. Is there a cheap fix for this? The replacement part (8781053160) costs $900+. Is there a cheaper compatible replacement I could buy? Maybe like a Toyota mirror that would fit?

Careful with some mirrors. If you buy a mirror off one of the various Lexus models, you need to check the pin layout. I believe our older IS's (at least 06-08ish) use the 5 pin layout (though possibly those that came with the luxury package may have a 10 pin layout due to the auto dimming side mirrors). If you buy a mirror off a newer IS/GS/etc, you'll need to buy a harness for it. I replaced my mirror last year with one off a 2010 GS since I wanted to keep the compass (really liked how the GS has the compass behind the glass versus a black cutout that the later 2IS's had), and preferred the new style of mirror versus the one on our older IS's, so I had to grab a premade 10 pin harness off of eBay for $20. Otherwise, find a mirror from your year that isn't damaged.
Easiest thing to do is just go the repair route and ship it to the guys gompka linked to though, may be the cheapest/least hassle anyways, and you'll know its repaired versus one from a similar year IS that may or may not be damaged.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but I just clipped on a $20 Broadway mirror. It covers up the spots, gives me more rear visibility and I like the look.
Can't tell what direction Im going, but that's not the end of the world.

Not sure, read the description carefully before you purchase. Make sure it's compatible with your year and make. Make sure you also check if it has compass or not (if you want compass). I bought the exact same mirror that was in my car. I then sold the old one on eBay.
I went that route for a while, but my mirror kept slipping off the OEM mirror. Eventually got fed up with it and replaced the OEM mirror with anonother OEM one.

I didn't want to spend $1500 on a new OEM mirror, and I wanted to keep the cool features like
home-link garage door opener, compass, and auto-dimming.
So I sent it out for repair for $120.
