Default P0023 after changing spark plugs

Hey, new IS350 owner!
Previous car was an IS300.

I read the DIY on how to change spark plugs and it seemed simple so I attempted it.
Driver side gave me issues because of the wiring harness.
I disconnected battery before changing plugs.
After I was done with the plugs I reconnect the battery and started the car.
First crank took forever and then the check engine check vsc light came on.
I got the code read and it was p0023.
Sometimes car doesn't start on first try.

I read p2003 is a camshaft position sensor, but which one is it?
Is it passenger or driver side?
Also what does it look like?
Is it one of these that go into the block?

Or one of these that are cylinder shaped?

Where in this image is it located?

THANKS!

Retrace your steps on the harness and make sure everything is plugged up tight. I've read this several times where people change the spark plugs, fuss with the harness and button everything up only to get a CEL. Usually, it is a plug disconnected or a wire damaged from too much stress during the work. Double check.

P2003 OBD-II Trouble Code: Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2

I think you might have the wrong code there. But more than likely you pulled the wiring out of the back of one of the cam position sensors. Yes, that "cylinder" looking silver/black piece would be one of them. Look at the one on the driver's side near the front of the car.

Good luck!

A little typo there ^^ .... =)
P0023 B Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 2)

Looking at the engine Bank 2 is the right side and aggreed, likely pulled a wire out of the solenoid.

Shown here you can see two solenoids and one sensor on each side. There are in fact two sensors (small black round).
Your problem is on the right side solenoid actuator. Tho I am not sure if its intake (higher) or exhaust (lower).

Also, for future reference simply unbolt the bracket that supports the harness and it gives you plenty of room to work. Although, IIRC I had to unsnap an eyelet from the IM too. But still, no strain on the harness.

Thanks a bunch man! This is extremely helpful! I'm going to check the plugs and wiring pins. If I fix the issue will the CEL go away by itself or do I need to reset it with an obd2 scanner?

This should clear itself immediately. Other items like emission related faults will take several drive cycles to clear. As in, up to temp, obtain various prolonged drive speeds and all that jazz.

I did mine a couple months ago and its best not to pry on harnesses. Do you recall disconnecting anything more than the coils and MAF?

In this cropped pic look at the wire loom bracket to the left center, the likely solenoid is for the exhaust cam and all you can see here is part of the connector with the purple boot near the wires exit.. Hopefilly its just unplugged. Further to the right near the center of the VC you can see the exhaust cam sensor. Its black and sticks out.

I retraced my steps and replugged everything till i heard it click. All cables were intact. Only odd thing i found was that one sensor had play to it. I think this might be the issue. I'll attach a gif below, let me know what you think. CEL is still on after disconecting battery and pulling efi etcs fuses.

It looks like the oil control valve/actuator is broken. While the connector is on securely, the plastic portion on the valve itself has cracked off. You're going to need a new OCV.

Can a broken OCV give a p0023 code?

Yes, that is what the code is for.

I'm going to have a mechanic come swap the part out today because it looks like the intake manifold needs to be removed. I'm not comfortable removing it myself lol
Will post update if it goes away!

My mechanic is flaking on me. Is there a diy to remove the intake manifold for the is350? Going to attempt it myself, I don't want to keep driving the car with that issue.
