Default 2006 Lexus IS350 - Unknown Rust By Reear Wheels

Hi All,

I have been looking at purchasing this IS350, 2006 with low mileage however I have one concern about it.

There is this rusted out part I found when inspection the underbody of the car.

I can not figure out what part it is, and if its part of the suspension. I am not too concerned about it if it is a part that I can cheaply replace myself, but I am worried that it is part of the frame somehow.

It is located on the rear of the car, just in front of suspension and axles.

I have attached pictures for reference,

Thanks a lot,

Al

One idea I've just now had is perhaps its the mount for the inner fender?

Isn't part of the rear subframe? I haven't been under my car in awhile to remember. If it rusted completely. Then most likely the rear subframe will need replacing in the future.

Thanks Mike,

It does look to me like they are connected

In retrospect I should have taken more photos and investigated a little more when I had the chance

Too much rust for me. I’d pass in it and try to find another one. Maybe further south or one that came from a warmer climate.

Hard in Ontario,

But I am surprised by the amount of rust considering its only at 60k miles/100km. Rest of car is mint.

Ohhhh. Gosh , im sorry . I use my iphone for everything and sometimes it’s hard to read everything. I thought your location said OH not ON . Yeah , I guess that definitely prevents you from southern climates. Lol. If it doesn’t feel right than don’t push the purchase. Just not meant to be. Can you prove the mileage? It could be the owner not washing the car undercarriage after snowy drives??

Haha no worries about the location,

its a one owner car, service records and low kms but yeah it does seem shocking the amount of rust given age and low use. Maybe just the metal on a few of the parts but still

Is it not just the heat shield on the tank?

I dont see why it would be a heat shield seeing as the exhaust is on the right side of the car and has other mounting points

That's silly. Some of us don't drive our car in snow and keep them garaged

If you're handy with tools, replace the badly rusted parts and have a nice, low mileage 350!

Get that thing up on a lift to do a proper pre-purchase inspection.

Glad this one has been on the west coast all its life...

Another angle.... And good luck whatever you decide to do.
